Iran’s top prosecutor is rejecting a claim by US President Donald Trump that American pressure prevented the execution of 800 people arrested during nationwide protests, calling the assertion “completely false.”
According to Iran’s judiciary-linked news agency Mizan, prosecutor Mohammad Movahedi dismissed Trump’s remarks and denied that any such mass executions were ever planned.
“This claim is completely false; no such number exists, nor has the judiciary made any such decision,” Movahedi said.
The statement comes amid ongoing uncertainty over the fate of thousands of detainees arrested during the recent wave of anti-government protests across Iran. While Iranian officials have acknowledged that some protesters are facing charges that could carry the death penalty, Tehran has repeatedly denied reports of large-scale executions.
Trump has previously said that both mass executions and the killing of peaceful protesters would constitute red lines that could trigger a possible US military response against Iran, claiming his warnings helped prevent the alleged executions.
Iranian authorities, however, continue to reject that narrative, insisting that the judiciary has not made any decision to carry out executions on such a scale.
