President Trump told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl that the U.S. response to Iran was underway as CENTCOM announced strikes.

Trump said, “I think it’s very important to respond. They shot down a helicopter, and we are responding as we speak.”

He added that the strikes were a response to what happened to the U.S. helicopter and said he believes the response should be “very strong” and “very powerful.”
