President Donald Trump declared Thursday that the United States has “ended the war” with Iran, saying Tehran has agreed never to obtain a nuclear weapon.
“I don’t know if you heard, but we ended the war with Iran today,” Trump said during a tele-rally supporting Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, who is running for governor.
“They have agreed never to have a nuclear weapon, something that we insisted on; that was the whole purpose. That was 95 percent of it,” Trump added.
Trump’s remarks came hours after he announced he had called off additional U.S. strikes against Iran, saying instead that the two sides had reached what he described as a “very strong memorandum of understanding.”
Earlier on Truth Social, Trump indicated that an agreement had been reached but did not disclose its terms. He also stated that the U.S. naval blockade preventing ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports would remain in place until “this Transaction is finalized.”
Iran has not publicly confirmed that any agreement has been reached.
