One year after an Iranian ballistic missile struck Soroka Medical Center during Operation Rising Lion, the hospital says it is emerging stronger, safer, and more advanced, with major reconstruction and expansion projects now underway.
The June 19, 2025 missile attack caused extensive damage to the hospital’s Northern Surgical Inpatient Building and surrounding infrastructure. Despite the destruction, medical teams continued providing uninterrupted care while restoration work proceeded across the campus.
Hospital officials say several major projects are nearing completion, including a new protected Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, an expanded Emergency Department and Trauma Center, a rehabilitation center, and new research facilities. The hospital is also rebuilding and fortifying operating rooms destroyed in the attack and advancing plans for a new protected inpatient tower.
Soroka, the largest hospital in southern Israel and the primary medical center for more than one million Negev residents, is also working with the Be’er Sheva municipality on a major development plan that would significantly expand the medical campus in the coming years.
“We are building the next generation of healthcare in Israel,” said Director General Shlomi Codish. “A larger, safer, more innovative and stronger medical center.”
