According to a Yediot Achronot report published on November 18, 2016, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has served 2,788 in office as the nation’s leader. The question remains is will he surpass the overall time served by the record-holder, David Ben-Gurion.

On Sunday, November 20th (19 Cheshvan), Mr. Netanyahu breaks one of Mr. Ben-Gurion’s records as the late prime minister served for five years and nine months ending in January 1954. He served a second term that lasted 2,790 days. Hence, on Sunday he broke Mr. Ben-Gurion’s second record but has a way to go to beat his overall time in office a prime minister.

The question now remains if he will serve an additional 972 days, thereby breaking Ben-Gurion’s overall record in the Prime Minister’s Office, amounting to 4,872 days. Mr. Netanyahu in his first term in office was 1996 to 1999.

If Mr. Netanyahu’s administration completes its term, which runs out on Election Day, November 5, 2019, he will have served an addition 1,082 days [from this report on Nov. 18, 2016] and become the longest serving prime minister in the nation’s history.

There are a number of elected officials formulating bills to limit the tenure of a Prime Minister as Mr. Netanyahu’s opponents seem unsuccessful at removing him from his spot as the national leader.
