Chief Rabbi Concerned Regarding Chilul Shabbos at Kever Rochel

Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yonah Yechiel Metzger has called upon mispallalim planning to visit Kever Rochel on motzei shabbos not to arrive for at least three hours after shabbos ends.

In his letter, the rav writes that “since Kever Rochel is located in a security sensitive area”, security agencies must prepare for the large tzibur expected after shabbos since the yahrzeit this year falls on shabbos. The rav points out the in an effort to prevent chilul shabbos or benefiting from chilul shabbos, one should wait three hours after shabbos before arriving at the site.

Beginning Thursday night the eve of 10 Cheshvan 5773, Egged will be significantly stepping up bus service to the tziyun, continuing on erev shabbos and motzei shabbos. The kever will be closed to private vehicles beginning at 15:00 on Thursday. In addition, persons will not be permitted to make their way to the site on foot, only by bus.

  1. There will be chilul shabbos for police, soldiers and other security workers if people go to Kever Rochel immediately after shabbos EXCEPT no one going thinks about the effects on others…
