The CR was open for about half of 2008. But no one was keeping track of contest-worthy posts. So how about starting now, we nominate posts so we can vote later on who has the post of the year? I think we can find something in the old YW attics to award as a prize when the contest is over.

Rules: A post must be at least seconded in order for the nomination to be approved. If you see a worthy post, nominate it. If anyone seconds it, copy and paste it into this thread.

A worthy example (unfortunately not from 2009) is the following, from Random Questions page 14:

    intellegent

    Member

    lkjhgfdsa,

    Do you live in dnaleri?

I don’t expect this thread to fill up fast. It’s not every day a post shows up that is worthy of an award.

Also, you may want to add a rule that you can’t nominate your own posts (I don’t know if this will help in asdfqwerty’s case – they’ll just keep nominating each other)

Since I was the first to ever be nominated as post of the day (I am totally blushing by the way) I think I am worthy of adding a rule. Any posts that are so obviously trying to sound sharp so they can be nominated is not eligible. 🙂

(By the way, I guess, I am nominated as post of the year for 2008.)

By the way, maybe we should also have a thread for spelling of the year (or make that “misspelling of the year”.) I’m sure we’ll come up with some funny ones.

intellegent: you won 2008 by default – yours was the only nomination. Hopefully there will be more to look back on for 2009.

observing: If you are not allowed to nominate your own post then you should also not be allowed to nominate your own post with a sock puppet SN.

    squeak,

Whaddayamean I won by default??? If there would have been an other one then it would have been nominated also!

By the way I am feeling awfully popular around here. I normally don’t get so much attention in most threads! 😀 Where’s Charlie?

    Mod72,

I admit. That was a very dumb comment for me of all people (who spelled my username wrong) to make a comment of misspelling of the year. (Do I get to win the dumbest post of the year?)

Trust me you are FAR from winning dumbest post of the year! YW Moderator-72

and how is #72’s comment telling that s/he is intellegent? I’d venture to say you are a mod, not intellegent.

i actually have the post, i copy & pasted it on 8/4/08 & saved it!!!

    here it is:

I still remember my days as a camp counselor and the policy that anyone over bar mitzvah was required to wear a hat and jacket. what I specifically remember were those who came from a backround that was not “black hat” in fact the hats were colorless, or shall I say they did not wear hats to davening. Push came to shove and camp policy won out. One guy purchased a hat in the disney store that had ears that flapped when you pulled a string under the chin. I’m not sure how it awakened anyone to daven with more kavanah, BUT he was wearing a hat! Thats all that seemed to matter.

if anyone could find it on the site & tell me who’s post it was…reward involved!!!!

WH – wow! talk about being misunderestimated! The mods actually removed a post there, and so my comments are not in response to any posts that you are seeing now.

Anyway, I don’t think intellegent is Mod72, I do not think that observing=brooklyn, and I am not a mod. At least 2 of those 3 statements are correct.

Regarding multiple SN, I think that a clever user could get away with it. Especially a user who was clever enough to bounce his IP off an Irish server so the mods couldn’t verify what we all knew was bogus.

ICanOnlyTry, thanks for the vote. I am worried, though, if I teased JFem once too many, because I haven’t seen her around here in a while. I really should ask her mechila, as she was a very sincere and well-meaning person who did not have an easy life. I hope she understood I was only kidding around.

back to the thread title….what about BYM’s post about getting up from her chair, to look out the window, when brook said everyone look out the window to see the fireworks-at midnight of jan. 1st!!!??? is that nod worthy???

    #1146493

    Pashuteh Yid-

I don’t think you scared her off. Your sense of humor is a little off-beat sometimes (not that I’m one to talk), but I’m sure she understands that you’re only kidding around, especially since you made it clear in another thread that no harm is intended. “jewishfeminist02” is still around, but posting less now that (I suppose) the novelty of this CR has worn off.

It’s nice to see you posting again – you’re a knowledgeable guy (i.e. your discussion with “shazam” of different types of radar, as well as your various inputs on learning topics), and when you have something to say it’s usually well put and clearly thought out.

Shkoyach and ICOT, thanks for kind words. I am still here, but CR has grown exponentially and hard to stay on top of all threads.

Also, as I mentioned on another recent thread, sometimes the exact same discussion comes up months after it was debated in excruciating detail on an earlier thread. I sometimes don’t have the koach to start all over again, or even to look up where exactly the first thread was, so I stay out.

Would be nice if there was some way to catalog all the older topics.

I guess this brings up the question of whether or not we can award a non-CR poster, but he has at least until the end of the year to join.

I went out on a date with a girl who insisted that I not look at her. It was the oddest thing. Apparently in her mind I was suppose to keep my head down the entire time. It was surreal. Neadless to say, there was no second date. I wonder if she ever had a 2nd date with anyone?

Joseph disappeared for a short while and came back twice for good measure

    1. I nominate that as post of the week.

    2. It seems “both” Josephs disappeared again. Does that mean that next week there will be 4 Josephs?

    squeak,

I upgrade that then to post of the year. And I hereby nominate you to go find that post of the year thread.

aussie, he’s gonna say what they all say. should i act it out?

“When a yid walks in the street he need to be careful about his shmiras einayim. The easiest way is to take off your glasses. If you boruch hashem are unfortunate enough to have 20/20 vision you should walk with your head down.

Don’t worry about bumping into trees or streetlamps – if you are doing the ratzon of hashem you have special shmira and chances are you won’t get a concussion. (Just by the way, if you happen to notice something big and tall that’s not moving and has no pulse, odds are, it’s a tree – not a woman.)

If you chas vesholom have to look up – like to check if the light is red (that’s if and only IF you’re hard of hearing and can’t tell if there are cars zooming by without actually looking) be sure to make it a quick peek.

If a bochur is in a situation where the yetzer hora is following him around town and he looks up and notices something that’s not tznius, he is not chayav unless he looks back a second time. so the first time we blame on the satan – the second time you look you are over on not having shmiras einayim.”
