oomis is correct. Churchill always had a cigarette in a holder

Churchill smoked cigars. From his bio on Wikipedia “In 1895, Churchill travelled to Cuba to observe the Spanish fight the Cuban guerrillas; he had obtained a commission to write about the conflict from the Daily Graphic. To his delight, he came under fire for the first time on his twenty-first birthday.[27] He had fond memories of Cuba as a “…large, rich, beautiful island…”[30] While there, he soon acquired a taste for Havana cigars, which he would smoke for the rest of his life.”

the classic image is a CIGAR hanging out of the side of his mouth, no? But I didn’t think that one picture should prove across the board

Jax, although it is widely known that I rode to school on my pet Brontosaurus, nevertheless, I did not have that aforementioned pleasure which you mentioned. 😉

They say that Churchill never smoked his cigar- just left it hanging in his mouth…maybe he liked the smell.

But I’m wondering do you think it would have affected his Shidduchim if he didn’t actually smoke it???

And that is precisely why I will not allow my kids to be redd shidduchim with smokers. It is too hard to ensure that a smoker will quit, no matter what he promises. I don’t need a pregnant daughter to be around this, or for my grandchildren’s lungs to be damaged by an addicted father (VERY powerful addiction) who is too selfish to put their welfare 100% ahead of his own pleasure.

I know that to some people here (smokers), I come off as very strident in this area. I have good reasons for feeling as I do, I have seen what cigarettes can do to someone, and even if (as most younger people tend to do) anyone thinks it cannot happen to him, the price you pay for smoking is way more than just a few dollars. And more than that, your loved ones pay even more than you do, because they have to live with the repercussions of your decision to keep smoking. Young people also get lung cancer, lip and throat cancer, emphysema, heart disease, stroke, and stomach cancer, all of which can be directly attributed to the carcinogens in smoke tobacco. Plus, nicotine is an addictive substance that causes painful withdrawal symptoms. Why would anyone want to use a product that seriously damages him when used exactly as directed?

we all are aware of the dangers of smoking the point im trying to make here is that most people stop smoking either when they get married or have a baby

think a smoking guy would specifically want a girl who would light up with him? i think that’d be way cool

That’s not true, and I think deep down you know it. They may APPEAR to stop, or TRY to stop, but they don’t stop, most of the time. It is simply naive to believe otherwise. Smokers are like alcoholics who get behind the wheel. They hurt themselves and potentially hurt others.

PLease DO take it personally, Moish. I think highly enough of you that I want you to be around for 120 years in good health. This is one of those issues that get me on a soapbox.

just wondering, if someone’s not addicted, why would they continue smoking? the only thing it could lead to is addiction.

Moish you want us to chill about the smoking thing. Well tell that to all the dead people who were smokers, were born to smokers, or lived with smokers. they are all quite chilled by now.

you know anyone who smoked only a couple of times a month and died from it? don’t even try to convince me.

like i said: i know it’s stupid and unhealthy and long term it can cause serious damage. but don’t tell me that two cigarettes a week will kill me. it won’t.

and if it does you win.

I don’t think that two cigarettes a week will give you cancer, but one puff of nicotine increases your heart rate. Two puffs increase it further and elevate your blood pressure, and so on. It may seem like a little amount of smoking, but there are people who stroked out from ONE arthritis pill, that was safely prescribed for so many others. I would not want to find out the hard way that I was the one person who would be seriously adversely affected by only a couple of cigarettes a week.

And if it does, I win????? No, but someone loses, most notably the family and friends who love you. It’s not a contest Moish. I am not telling you what to do. Teenagers are famous for having the sense that they are immortal – or not really caring about the future.
