I hope I’m not out of line here… but, after following several completely unrelated threads, and seeing a common denominator in all of Mosherose’s (annoying!) posts… I have a theory what his motivation to post/comment is:
(MY guess is) Mosherose has left the Torah-way of living – yet knows all the ins and outs because he’s been “one of us”, and that he is sitting with a bunch of like-minded buddies getting a huge laugh off of the serious yet naive and unsuspecting responders to his daft questions and comments…
What do YOU think?
October 22, 2010 4:59 am at 4:59 am #704360SacrilegeMembervnishmartem
Points for an over-active imagination!
He does it so he can get a good laugh from people like you who get all tzehitzd.
October 22, 2010 5:33 am at 5:33 am #704361WIYMembervnishmartemmeod
I think your theory might be a bit of a stretch. He almost sounds like a BT who is going overboard or someone who frummed out and became really extreme. Somebody is feeding him extreme Hashkafos. Or the Yeshivah he is in is very extreme…not sure exactly.
At first I thought he was a troll, and Im not 100% convinced he isnt yet he seems pretty serious and consistent about what he posts.
October 22, 2010 5:55 am at 5:55 am #704362real-briskerMemberWhy do the mods post them?
October 22, 2010 6:41 am at 6:41 am #704363HelpfulMembermosherose is a sincere Yid who means what he says. The fact that he is so “extreme”, leads some to find this unbelievable.
October 22, 2010 10:09 am at 10:09 am #704364whatrutalkingabtMemberI think he is a regular normal teenager with normal hashkafos who is posting those ridiculous things (that he does not believe) just to get a laugh out of it and see peoples reactions
October 22, 2010 12:55 pm at 12:55 pm #704365Ben TorahParticipantHe’s been consistently posting the same hashkofos for almost 2 years in the Coffee Room. He deserves credit for sticking it out despite all the criticism directed at him. (And it has always been the case.) After doing it consistently so long, it is difficult to doubt him.
October 22, 2010 1:15 pm at 1:15 pm #704366mybatMemberI agree 100% with venishmartem. He just posts things to get a good laugh from ppls answers.
October 22, 2010 1:28 pm at 1:28 pm #704367apushatayidParticipantHe has to much time on his hands.
October 22, 2010 1:37 pm at 1:37 pm #704368HaLeiViParticipantHe doesn’t sound for real. I forget which thread it was, but there was a discussion questioning a Halacha and he posted his rubber stamp there, too. Even someone with extreme Haskafos knows that Torah is to be discussed.
October 22, 2010 1:40 pm at 1:40 pm #704369HaLeiViParticipantI wonder if he has another screen name in which his Dr. Jeckel side gets to have a say.
October 22, 2010 1:45 pm at 1:45 pm #704370squeakParticipantIt is to the credit of many of the people frequenting this forum that they do not recognize trolling behavior. Some of us though, have been interacting ‘anonymously’ on them internets for years and can’t miss it.
Ditto for multiple user names.
October 22, 2010 2:00 pm at 2:00 pm #704371HelpfulMemberapy – he is a relatively infrequent poster compared to many regulars.
October 22, 2010 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #704372bptParticipantI think he’s genuine. I also think he’s genuinly misguided, and woefully immature, but that’s my opinion.
I do not think he’s a BT on the rebound, as his grammar and spelling is too poor to be anything but a yeshiva (*english dept.*) dropout.
Most likely has a terrific kesher with his rebbeim, but is seeing the trees while ignoring the forrest.
October 22, 2010 2:06 pm at 2:06 pm #704373bptParticipantAnd yes, I know I mis-spelled some of the words… I did’nt bother with spell check. Shoot me (or better yet, potch me… I’m still deserving of a few more from yesterday)
October 22, 2010 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #704374apushatayidParticipantHe has enough time to interject something outrageous and then disappear, enjoying the tumult.
October 22, 2010 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm #704375Ben TorahParticipantEven someone with extreme Haskafos knows that Torah is to be discussed.
My impression has been that he is willing to discuss his POV.
October 22, 2010 2:32 pm at 2:32 pm #704376philosopherParticipantI believe mosherose is having fun posting stuff he does not believe in and seeing the reactions to his comments.
Whether he is off-the-derech, I can’t tell. I don’t beleive he is. But he is doing a good job as coming accross as genuine.
October 22, 2010 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #704377popa_bar_abbaParticipantI think he’s funny. I was unsuspecting and did get riled up the first couple of times. I could see myself doing that as an alter ego.
October 22, 2010 2:36 pm at 2:36 pm #704378squeakParticipantBen Turah: The fact that you consider that “discussion” is telling.

Mr. 80
mosherose is obviously lacking in a clear Daas Torah and his knowledge of the ways of the Jewish People is clearly not fully developed.
nevertheless he is one in a million and when his character becomes polished, and with the right guidance (and a lot of it) i anticipate he may become a great Talmid Chochom and Tzaddik.
for he holds firmly to a crucial principle that almost everyone else has forgotten:
the Emes is the Emes, what feels right, what is accepted as a given by the entire nations, what appears to be obvious truths, are not Emes if they deviate from our Mesorah.
he needs to learn a little more clearly what our Mesorah is, but his tight grasp and unwillingness to let go of what he believes to be Torah is a beautiful and rare Middah.
POSTED 2 DAYS AGO #
Moderator-80 clearly believes mosherose is Emes, believes what he is saying, AND is on the right path potentially to becoming a Tzadik and Talmid Chochom, with some refinements.
October 22, 2010 2:54 pm at 2:54 pm #704380tzippiMemberHaven’t read the posts here but how in the world is this thread at all muttar? If anyone can offer support from the Chofetz Chaim or any of the popularized forms of the original sefer please share, l’toeles harabbim.
October 22, 2010 2:57 pm at 2:57 pm #704381squeakParticipantWADR, Mod 80 almost fits into WIY’s category when it comes to viewing/judging other peoples’ frumkeitin.
October 22, 2010 3:03 pm at 3:03 pm #704382popa_bar_abbaParticipantWell, I like Mod 80, and he is making a good point about following the torah even when it sounds odd, but I still think Mosherose is just- funny.
October 22, 2010 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #704383squeakParticipantI very much like and admire Mod 80 as well. That is not to say that I agree with all of his judgements.
It seems that the jury is still out on MR, and I am shocked. Anyone with forum experience would out him as a troll in an instant. Only a quality troll would be able to stir up a debate about himself. As I said before, it is to the credit of many of those here that the standards for quality trolling on this site are much much lower than I am used to.
October 22, 2010 3:21 pm at 3:21 pm #704384HaLeiViParticipantIt’s very improbable that he is genuine. He doesn’t join any conversation, or say anything other than his rubber stamp. Also, someone that has such different views than the whole crowd and doesn’t find any like minded comrads, would leave. When I saw how the other site was full of Hashkafos that I despised of, I left. Neither would he have kept quiet on this thread (now it’s too late).
October 22, 2010 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #704385HelpfulMemberHaLevi — He only posts (usually) every second week or so, sometimes not being around for months at a time. He probably wont even see this thread for a while.
October 22, 2010 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #704386HomeownerMemberBen Torah,
What is the secret formula for inserting HTML codes that you are using?
Obviously, the real codes like word for bold, etc. don’t work here.

October 22, 2010 5:01 pm at 5:01 pm #704389JoseMemberWhy is there a question what mosherose’s motivation is as opposed to so many of the commenters here? I could list a dozen that seem to have strange or inexplicable motivations. Do you know or even fathom what thier motivations are and what their true identies/ backgrounds are?
October 22, 2010 5:06 pm at 5:06 pm #704390HelpfulMemberHomeowner use “strong” (without quotes) instead of “b” for bold, and use “em” for italiacs.
October 22, 2010 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #704391I can only tryMemberI think it’s real.
This is being dan lekaf z’chus – It would be extremly cruel to constantly aggravate another poster if it was simply a prank, and not because he believes what he is posting.
That said, I’m not sure this thread is a good idea.

October 22, 2010 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #704393Ben TorahParticipantsqueak, Just yesterday OVER HERE you said to mosherose:
You sound like a smart young fellow, so I’m going to answer you seriously… Work on acquiring some humility and realize that the people you are talking to may know a bit more than yourself… Continue to do more learning.
That isn’t the response one makes to someone simply seeking a reaction. So your position seems to have fluctuated from just the other day.

October 22, 2010 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #704396mw13ParticipantI find it slightly disturbing that so many here question whether or not somebody is genuine simply because they disagree with them… I have never seen anything that would suggest that mosherose is baiting anybody, and I have no reason to think this is the case.

Thanks.

October 22, 2010 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #704398mischiefmakerMemberObviously mosherose is a troll. If he really believed in what he said he’d have better things to back them. Why does he disappear every time he posts some rediculous post. Maybe he does have another username and so he just gets a kick out of seeing the action he stirs up. He wants ATTENTION! That’s it. And I wonder what he has to say about this thread…..
October 22, 2010 11:13 pm at 11:13 pm #704399sof davar hakol nishmaMemberI do NOT think hes OTD at all. I think he is a very sincere idealistic teenager. (sometimes it happens to them, they FRUM out to an extreme.) i also think he gets a geshmak and kick out of getting everyone tzehitzd
