This is not a new scam although people should be aware. Dansdeals has been saying this for years.

Technically no, you signed a contract for a flat fee. You are not getting paid by the hour.

And as much as we I got paid more, sleep-away camps pay even less because they cheshban you’re getting room/board also.

    The two most practical solutions:

    1) Turn your phone off

    2) Settings > Voice > “Ok Google” Detection > From LOCK screen OFF

But if you do want to leave it on, then I think its what you would hold for an automatic light on the front of your neighbor’s house – you might cause it but you have no intention of it and are not trying to make the object do anything.

We had a situation with an automatic door to get to the Succah in a Nursing Home. They would lock the door on ‘open’ but the sensor was still on and clicked when we walked through. Now we get the power to it turned off beforehand, but according to some its still OK if it hadn’t been turned off (obviously turned off is better) and according to others its not.

So, like most Halachos of this nature its a Machlokes and I agree that you should speak to your local orthodox Rabbi.

You can buy a radio transmitter or a tape adapter – both can connect to any mp3 players headphone jack. Staples probably has both for under $20. The tape adapter is more reliable, radio transmitter can be hard to use depending on where you live. But you can just pop the tape into your car, the wire still sticks out – plug that into your ipod/zune/sansa/etc and hit play.

Go to Staples and search MACALLY POD TAPE Cassette Tape Car Adapter

As nice as I would like to imagine it’s true, there has been no actual proof from any news source. The farthest I (or any news source) has been able to trace the story is from a Facebook post which obviously is not conclusive.

Other news sources have published that they have doubts if it’s true, The Jewish Press is the only one that says “We are trying to confirm it one way or the other.” Given the timeline for this story, I don’t have high hopes of it being true.

    Here is the full math:

This is the given info, with Cork as C, and bottle as B:

    C+B=4.10

    B=C+4.00

So since we know what B is, we insert it into the first equation:

    C+C+4=4.10

    Combine the C:

    2C+4=4.10

    Subtract 4 from both sides:

    2C=.10

Divide by 2 on both sides:

    C=.05

I also thought .10 — until you really take it in that it says the bottle is 4.00 more than the cork, not actually 4.00

It’s a kid song and it has to rhyme, so that gets them some slack.

But yes, it can make sense–you’re a miracle, you’re not pretending to be a great person, you don’t have to (CHV”S) forget the Torah to be great, you are a miracle already. No need to fake anything.

Could it be better? Probably. But like I’ve said before, it’s catchy as shnitzel so….

I will confess, I first though it was “you’re a miracle, not eyihu hanavi”

The lyrics might not have been that clear limaskana, but come on, its extremely catch

If I were to take a guess, it’s because of how the system works:

Bottle are preprinted with a serial number, aka your ID — that same ID is on the card you get. They can’t preprint a bunch of social security numbers.

It’s a backup plan. The guy even said you can use any numbers you want, as they cross-reference it with your birthday.

They were very clear with Dor Yeshorim: The whole purpose of giving your SSN is in case you lose the ID number. Seems pretty logical to me that the SSN can be used in its stead.

If you want to be retested, then just look at your local yeshivas. Most Beis Midrashim do Dor Yesharim every other year. Ask around. (Yeshivas are cheaper, about $150 if I remember correctly)

    not a wannabe

    Here is the full lyrics:

Many many years, it was long ago

his majesty let the jews all know

no more spirit, and no more pride

King Antiochus is “on your side”

    Leave, leave, leave it alone

all your dreams of a G-dly home

fantasize ’bout the real good stuff

forget the torah-it is all bluff (but they will say)

    Chorus

    M-I-R-A-C-L-E

    you’re a miracle-not a wannabe

your little light, will burn so bright

and shine away the darkness of this night….Hey

    M-I-R-A-C-L-E

    you’re a miracle-not a wannabe

your little light, will burn so bright

and shine away the darkness of this night….Oh

    Bridge

    M-I-R-A-C-L-E miracle

    o h M-I-

    R-A-C-L-E you’re a miracle

    Verse II

Greek lore, they are no more

    Maccabee’s miracles won the war

few beat the many, the eight “night lights”

the great miracles came from “his” heights

Try, try, try as they may

there will come a day when they all will say

Jew you were right to put up a fight

and now we see your miracle’s might (and they will say)

    Back To Chorus

    Interlude

    You’re an M-I-R-A-C-L-E

    You’re an M-I-R-A-C-L-E

    You’re an M-I-R-A-C-L-E…..

    You’re an M-I-R-A-C-L-E

    You’re an M-I-R-A-C-L-E

    You’re an M-I-R-A-C-L-E…..

    Verse III

Good of you to be a proud jew

in your darkest times your light shone through

you’re a miracle and you inspire

your small candle light is hot on fire

Look, look, with a lovin’ eye,

just lift a broken heart to the sky

your greatest miracle, it can be found

inside of you, so pass it around (and now they say)

    Back To Chorus

    Rap….Back To Chorus

While selling online is not my parnassah, it is a secondary source of income for me. I wasn’t merely ‘curious’.

And I did include ebay/amazon thinking as you did in the beginning that it would go by when you get paid. Here is my original submission:

Is selling online over Shabbos and Yom Tov allowed? I will try to

    outline the differences:

The case starts obviously with you selling something online via eBay or Amazon (or your own store). However a difference (possibly — thats why I am asking) could be when you get paid. By Amazon you get paid much later (generally a week or 2) and by an eBay auction you generally get paid when the auction ends and you have control over that. But from your own store or eBay “Buy it Now” it is possible for someone to buy it and pay you on Shabbos. A big store like B&H maybe the credit cards aren’t processed on Shabbos but in these cases, PayPal or Amazon don’t care…. So how far is this ???? or ?????

This has always been a big question to me. My local Orthodox Rabbi (he is learned in Shulchan Aruch, a known Rabbi) told me that he doesn’t see any problem with it, obviously as long as you don’t take any action on Shabbos.

However, I did send a message to Business Halacha and I quote the response, directly from HaRav Chaim Kohn Shlita:

“In my opinion, the relevant factor is not if you are paid immediately but that you permit activating your obligation to deliver. With it, you participate creating the kinyan hischayvus. Therefore, it is necessary that your website isn’t actively processing the requests on Shabbos.

    KT Chaim Kohn”
