“A comparison to chassidim is therefore disingenuous since their hashakafa and society is different.

Likewise a story about a couple who dated for 6 months, since they were either relatively modern, or had some serious issues to work through. (If the latter, we can speculate on why they got divorced)”

popa_bar_abba, The point I bought up is that I don’t think having few dates is a factor for the divorce crisis. So what if chassidim have a different hashkafa?? What has that to do with it?? If your saying I can’t compare it to them because they have a different society/hashkafas then your saying that is our problem then! The society and haskafas! Nothing to do with the amount of dates then.

The couple who dated for 6 months and unfortunately had such a short lived marriage, divorced because the husband did something horrific. All that dating never revealed what he would be like after marriage. What I’m trying to show you is that I feel it has nothing to do with the amount of meetings, as so many people have written on here- its about working on the marriage and working on our faults.

Oh, and by the ways mods, haven’t been in the coffee room for a while, have come back n have noticed the amazing improvement! My post was up here in seconds and the site in general looks great! Good work guys!

popa_bar_abba, I read your post you wrote commenting on my post and I want to explain further, but reading your further posts on this thread, I just want to check are you for real?? Or is Mod 80 right and should we just read your posts as sarcastic??

“Maybe the whole shidduch system is faulty – 5-6 dates and an engagement is announced! Making a lifetime commitment takes more than that brief period of time”

I haven’t written on here for a very long time but when I read your post…Yossi please, I got engaged after 7 meetings and I am very happily married bH. Funny thing is that one of my friends just got divorced after 5 months of maariage and she went out with her husband for 6 MONTHS. It has NOTHING to do with it. Do chassidim who meet for a very short amount of time have a higher divorce rate?? And one more thing, my huband was just speaking about this with his Rav the other day. He said whats the point of all this dating if you don’t really get to know the person anyway till after you’re married? And you know what our Rav said without even thinking twice? He said THERE IS NO POINT!!! He said as long as there is no obvious things that bother you there is no other reason to continue dating, because for what??

    Caramelized chicken:

    Chicken

    paprika

    garlic powder

    oil, for sauteing

2 large onions, cut into rings (i put in more than that cos the onions come out amazing)

    50 grams margarine, melted

    3/4 cup (light) brown sugar

1 and a half tablespoon soy sauce

Preheat broiler (grill). Position chicken in a single layer in baking pan.

Sprinkle with garlic powder and paprika. Broil for 8-10 mins.

Meanwhile, heat oil and saute onions.

Then add meted marg, brown sugar and soy sauce and stir into onions. Pour mixture over chicken.

Cover baking tin and bake on 350 for 1 and a half to 2 hours. Remove foil and continue baking uncovered for another half hour till the chicken is dark brown.

    Enjoy!

oomis1105- I heard the same thing, that “If there was a miscarriage in the first pregnancy, there is no requirement for a pidyon on the next baby born if it is male”. Yet I know of several cases where there was a pidyon even though there was a miscarriage previously. I wonder why the pidyon was allowed, do know any source for this?

“You know, this is why I didn’t play the screen name thread. I don’t consider myself a pen pal of anyone and I don’t know if that’s altogether appropriate anyway.” tzippi, I actually wondered where you were on the screen name thread. Was wondering what you would write. I guess I can add myself onto the thread, “You Know You’ve Been Spending Too Much Time in The YWN Coffee Room When…”!! 🙂

I see the point that facebook is a great way for some people to keep in touch with their friends etc; however in my opinion the cons weigh out the pro’s beyond a doubt. I used to be on facebook and then I deactivated my account since I saw some pictures on my friends page, (not photographs-it was those square messages you can send your friend with a cute/funny one liner/message etc) which were so untzenuah and filthy, I was truely shocked. To add, the loshon hora that people write on some of the groups made me think, why do people think facebook is a heter to do these things? Someone started a group about the rabbi’s who taught in a seminary and the leytzonus (the making fun of) and lack of derech eretz shown there was very sad. I decided this was just not for me.

Freezer: “Facebook has become an obsession. Ask anyone who has it.” I agree. I know someone who told me she left facebook because she was just spending was too much time on it. Kol hakovod to her i say.

mamashtakah: If I remember correctly you can send messages to someone on facebook one to one, to a space where noone else can read it-its not on the page for anyone to see. Someone can write to you through this even if they are not on your friends list. So, you are limited how much you can watch your kids with this.

I think some of things discussed under the thread “Are frum couples perhaps divorcing too quickly??” is inappropriate for a 13 year old. What do you think?

    WolfishMusings,

I find it amazing that you believe so strongly in your “primary source”. A Rebetzin gave this story by a shiur and yet you still stick to only believing the facts which Google/the Guinness Book of World Records writes of….interesting.

    nameless (and Joseph!),

I totally agree with your comments on this one!
