my 2 cents woth..here goes, people do things they shouldnt on shabbos including texting and using technology coz they have little (notice i use little and not non because EVERY yid has a spark that needs to be ingnited) relationship with G-d.
it maybe because they never learned how to have a relationship with human coz if u dont know how to have a relationship with people you dont know how to have a relationship with Hashem, how u supposed to learn? if you are numb to your parents/teachers coz you never had a good relationship with them, you will be numb to Hashem.
its all down to the PR marketing and packaging! so go and hire a pr company if you want to get married!…..and then just daven to Hashem and let Him do the rest, G-d DOES 100% OF THE WORK WE DO THE REST.
perhaps it is either because they dont know the transalation or because it fits in with the nigun?

the real question is, did you do what you where supposed to do with that free time and connect with others in a posative way?
on shabbos and yom tov we are in a situation where we have to connect (eventhough some people still choose not to), but on a regular day where we have a choice, did you make that effort to connect?
