Bein Hazmanim definitely is important, not because the guys are needed to help around the house, but because yeshiva bochurim need a break every once in a while and by the time pesach comes they are often burnt out from the long winter zman. In the week or two before pesach, there is plenty for the yeshiva boys to do, whether it is shopping for themselves, or helping shop for or clean their house, or even get a job if they need money.

However the idea of in-town yeshivos not starting the new zman until rosh chodesh Iyar is ridiculous. And yes lakewood is in-town. There is no reason that the yeshivos dont start 2 or 3 days after pesach. They had their time to chill out and now its time to go back and continue shteiging.

Very exciting for an a capella cd. Also was good to see that Eli G decided to stick to using purely voices (almost), the way acapella really should be. Its a shame when others put out so-called “Aka-pella” cd’s which are so jazzed up and defeat the whole purpose of sfira.

I got to know Rabbi Lichtman when he was my div. head in Camp Agudah, and i know that a tremendous part of the ruach and geshmak that exists in Agudah was due to Rabbi Lichtman’s hard work, both in camp and behind the scenes. This must be a huge blow to camp Agudah.

Btw does anyone know why R’ Lichtman decided to retire? I really imagined him a staple there forever.

On the yeshiva’s part, it is so wrong!

These boys who already spend 10 months a year in yeshiva need a break sometimes. It’s one thing if the yeshiva encourages their talmidim to come for a month in the summer. But to force every kid to go? It’s outrageous. Many boys live the whole year, literally counting down the days till summer. The summer is a time for kids to relax, make new friends, show their talents, and of course have fun, without the pressures they feel in school. Isn’t the summer time called “vacation?”

Also, all of the “good” batei medrashim now require their talmidim to attend this extra 1 month program. Many of the bochurim from these yeshivos would otherwise be working in camps as counselors and such, but yeshiva requires them to stay for at least a month. If all the good bochurim have to to be in yeshiva during the summer, who are our children’s counselors? Are the camps taking guys from not such great yeshivos as counselors since all the “good guys” are stuck in yeshiva?

I personally have spent a lot of time searching for sheet music of the songs of today’s jewish singers. The link to the website that helped me most is – http://forum.jewishmusicforum.com/

It depends on your child. Some kids are not really ready to drive until 19 or 20, however for a boy or girl that has driven well under supervision and you feel is serious and mature enough to drive, there’s no point in holding him back past 17. You have to know your kids.
