Phil: as an eved hashem, i try to be accepting of all types in the frum community. Whenever one is attacked, i try to defend it, no matter which one it is. I was just wondering in this post if people have certain experiences that could help me make an informed decision.

flatbusher: how do you know you are older than me? and, i think she was questioning your ability bc we all are. Have you ever experienced it? does not seem like it. So therefore, i also question your ability. you are uninformed and making assumptions from the outside, which is never good.

Ans, why shouldnt a seminary graduate be on the internet? how do you know that she isnt doing school or business in the other tab on her browser and she is just using this chat as a break? stop judging and making assumptions based on zero facts. you did it regarding seminary and now you are doing it regarding wannabegood7. And, why are you on the internet? whats your excuse? shoiuld i assume that you are using it for the wrong reason also, basedon nothing, just because im anonymous on the internet? a taste of your own medicine doesnt taste good, does it?

and, we may infer from wannabegood7’s username that she is striving to be good. that is more than you- you are ok being a flatbusher… yikes. way to set the bar low #Lamdus

with the power vested in me from the great YWN Coffee Room, I deem artscroll to be the best translation for shas and the jastrow to be the best dictionary for the gemara and midrashim. case closed

flatbusher: going “through this process with [your] daughters” is not the same as experiencing it yourself. lets give wannabegood7 a break here. she is giving her opinion and you should respect that (even if you dont agree with it… i know i know, crazy concept). if anything, you are being disrespectful and maybe it would help you to attend seminary to improve your middos

You are right. I do have a chip on my shoulder, a huge chip in fact, because I feel that this irresponsible division in the frum community must be fixed. Most of it is based on false premises. Imagine if R’ Nosson Tzvi Zt”l was denied a date because he went to a modern high school (much more modern than YU)!? We have to stop looking at where someone went and instead look at where he is heading. It is ridiculous to claim to know someone just based on the institution he attends/attended. There is absolutely no downside to accepting this date and trying it out. There is only upside.

As a YU bochur myself, i am extremely offended. Now i know why i attend YU and not any of your yeshivish yeshivas. You are all close minded and creating unnecessary sinas chinam. When i went to the mir for a week, i saw half the bochrim batuling all day and never entering the confines of the beit midrash. They would hang out and smoke by the restaurants all day and one of them even bragged to me that he calls in to NY sports radio everyday, so much so that the radio host (a goy! *gasp*) recognizes his name and voice. The fact that you would prefer that guy bc he went to the mir and not a YU bochur who is learning a minimum of 6.5 hours a day, by choice!!! he is not being forced to do this, like in the yeshivish velt. He is learning bc he wants to. It is easy to fall thru the cracks in YU due to the diversity, so the fact that he is in the beis medrash should mean more than anything else. I would bet my life that if you would look at YU and their roshei yeshiva without any preconceived false notions, then you would see that they are second to none and they can learn with anyone. The roshei yeshiva are mamash gedolei torah and are worthy of being the rosh hayeshiva in any chashuv yeshivish yeshiva. will your daughter’s life end if she went on a date with a YU bochur!? if so, then maybe you should be asking us YU bochurim if your daughter (or any of these yeshivish girls) are chasuv enough to go on dates with us!
