batHH: Who are “white Jews”? Sephardim? Ashkenazim?
JosephParticipantI married the first person redt as a shidduch.
JosephParticipant“Reb Moshe in Igros Moshe O”CH 6:2 says something interesting. A woman according to the Rabbenu Taam can make a brocho on a time dependent mitzva, but not an eved because he does not have a קדושת ישראל. It looks like a woman does but not as great as a man that is why she is exempt from time dependent commandments. Not like the Kol Bo who says that she is exempt because she is responsible to her husband.”
Iaskern: How is women’s קדושת ישראל less than the קדושת ישראל of men?

One cannot go to secular court without first obtaining a heter arkaos.

If the current course will kill two people and it is forbidden to change course to only kill one (different) person, then if the current course will kill 100 people it would seem to be forbidden to change course if that’ll kill 1 (different) person instead of the 100.

Midwest2: Those who date 10 or more times end up in Beis Din more often than those who get engaged after 5 dates. And those who date for half a year or more have an even higher divorce rate. Even 6-12 months of dating will often not reveal major faults.

JosephParticipantIaskern: I believe MDG is referring to Igros Moshe YD 1:162. It seems that Reb Moshe allows owning an Eved Knani nowadays.

JosephParticipantlaskern: If MDG accurately cited Rav Moshe, then Rav Moshe permits owning an Eved.
JosephParticipant“Rav Moshe’s instructions for adoption mention acquiring a baby as an Eved for a moment.”
So we see that Rav Moshe holds that we can have an Even Knani today in America regardless of the secular law.

What’s the logical reason that Halacha puts an Eved in the same halachic obligations as a woman?

Gun laws are probably the only thing NYC government got right.
JosephParticipantBenignuman: I once did a back-of the-napkin calculation of the timeline from among the Megila, various Midrashim, Chazals, etc. from the time Vashti was a little child when Belshazzar was killed and Achashverush married her until she met her untimely demise.
JosephParticipantShe must have been pretty young when she was killed. She married Achasheverus as a child and after she was executed Esther was married to Achashverus herslef for quite a while. Can a timeline be made out of the Megilla and Medrashim?
Vashti was in her teens when she was executed.

February 28, 2018 9:47 am at 9:47 am in reply to: Are Chareidi women judges the wave of the future? #1479199JosephParticipant“in der heim they held so”
In the Torah, Gemorah and Shulchan Aruch it says so.
“woman should be part of society”
That was never c”v Sarah Shnirrer’s goal. She created schools for girls, something never done before in Jewish history, due to a shas hadchak of girl going off the derech. At the time you had families where after the husband made kiddush Friday night, the wife r”l went to the movie theatre.
“well today most rabbonim hold that women should go out in the world to work and get educated either with college or hi position jobs”
This is patently false. Rav Moshe, Rav Aharon and so many other Chareidi Gedolim past and present have railed against college.
JosephParticipantThe Medrash in Esther Rabba 4:9 and 4:12 says that Vashi as beheaded and her head was placed on a platter.
Where was the platter placed?

February 27, 2018 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm in reply to: Rav Miller Website Accuses ‘Joseph’ Of Stealing #1479075JosephParticipantUri: Like Neville pointed out, the source is Rabbi Miller. Specifically, from his public shiurim attended by many.
February 27, 2018 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm in reply to: Rav Miller Website Accuses ‘Joseph’ Of Stealing #1479013JosephParticipantAlso note that all the quotations were from public shiurim that many people attended and were free to take their own notes quoting anything the Rov said. The only service from this place (and it is a very praiseworthy service) is to transcribe what the Rov said in those public shiurim that anyone was free to attend and write down (and later share with others, if so desired.)
Btw, the TorasAvigdor website is not affiliated with Rav Miller’s Yeshiva, family or with Simchas Hachaim. It is a private effort by regular talmidim of the Rov who want to disseminate his Torah on their own.

I spoke to them about six months ago, before they had a website (at the time it was email-only), and Amichai from their team said he was okay with posting it here or anywhere since his primary goal was to disseminate Rav Miller’s Torah as widely as possible. I now asked him to clarify if this position has changed and am awaiting his getting back to me.
