“I have tremendous respect for Rav Miller, and in this instance there are other points if view from big rabbanim as well.”
Can you please share any name(s) of any “big rabbonim” who you think disagree with Rav Miller on this issue and what exactly they said that indicates to you a disagreement?
JosephParticipant“By our sanhedrin we have the same ruling.

JosephParticipantRav Avigdor Miller on Davening For The Resha’im
Q: Don’t we have a responsibility to daven for resha’im that they should do teshuva? So why do we say “V’lamalshinim” three times a day, and pray for the demise of the wicked?
A: Listen. Here is a Jewish apikoris running after you with a club. He wants to hit you with a club. So you’re asking me if you should daven to Hashem that he should do teshuva?! Maybe. You have no time however. In the meantime he should drop dead. That’s what you want.
That’s why we say m’heirah three times in the bracha of “V’lamalshinim” – m’heirah, m’heirah, miheirah! In no tefillah do we find that it says mi’heirah as much as in that brachah. Because the apikorsim are a danger. They are a threat to us. So although we want them to do teshuva, they’d better do teshuva fast. Otherwise they should get killed before they do anything bad to us. And the effect they have on our minds is very bad. מכל משמר נצור לבך – “More than anything you guard, you should guard your mind” (Mishlei 4:23). The apikorsim are wreaking havoc on our minds so they’d better do teshuva fast.
I passed a missionary on Kings Highway – a Jewish missionary sitting on Kings Highway giving out his literature. So I passed by him and I said, “Ribono Shel Olam, he should do teshuva. Let him drop dead in the meantime.”

February 26, 2018 12:33 am at 12:33 am in reply to: Litvishe chasanim wearing frocks at their chasunas #1476763JosephParticipantThe Litvaks in Lita wore shtreimals and peyos and the Yekkes certainly had long curly peyos like you see on Chasidim now. (There are pictures around; even some of the early mild reformers in Germany still had long peyos and a big Yarmulka.) I think they wore shtreimals too but would have to double check that one.
February 25, 2018 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm in reply to: Are Chareidi women judges the wave of the future? #1476736JosephParticipantA woman’s place is not in the public arena. This principle is enumerated throughout the Torah, Chazal and Halacha – including Shulchan Aruch and Rambam.
February 25, 2018 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm in reply to: Litvishe chasanim wearing frocks at their chasunas #1476685JosephParticipantFrocks and even shtreimals are not an inherently Chasidic dress. All Ashkenazic Yidden, including Litvaks and Yekkes, used to wear frocks and shtreimals. When the Russian government, which also ruled Lithuania and Poland at the time, banned the wearing of ostensibly Jewish clothing such as frocks and shtreimals, many communities stopped wearing them. The Chasidim and some others like the talmidei haGra persisted in continuing to wear the traditional Jewish clothing despite the government gezeira against it.

You are arguing (even if true) that this makes arkaos muttar?!
The issur against arkaos is to be a (willing) litigant, lawyer or judge in a non-Din Torah court where the parties are Yidden.

February 23, 2018 11:01 am at 11:01 am in reply to: Choson & Kallah Walking Together Into Wedding Hall – Jewish or Gentile? #1475480JosephParticipantBenignuman: I’m not sure how many such Jewish weddings you’ve been to, but unfortunately the ones I’ve been to that do this shtick in almost all the cases the Choson and Kallah both came in to the door going into the women’s dance floor, even though there’s two doors, one leading to the men’s dance floor and the other leading to the women’s dance floor. Nevertheless they didn’t each go directly to their respective gender, initially.
February 23, 2018 11:01 am at 11:01 am in reply to: Are Chareidi women judges the wave of the future? #1475471JosephParticipantNo. The vast majority of women who call themselves Chareidi are Torah observant and would never consider violating prohibitions against women being judges or against arkaos, serving or participating in a non-Jewish/non-Din Torah/non-Beis Din case.

February 22, 2018 8:07 pm at 8:07 pm in reply to: Choson & Kallah Walking Together Into Wedding Hall – Jewish or Gentile? #1475301JosephParticipantBenignuman: I was so told by several non-tribesmen (indeed all those I asked) that this is a common or standard fare at non-Jewish nupitals. I was also told by several older members of the tribe (indeed all those I asked) that in the alte heim the Choson and Kallah didn’t jointly walk into the dance floor of one of the genders, but rather each walked into the dance floor of their respective gender (without their new spouse appearing on the wrong side of the dance mechitza.)
Additionally, they didn’t have the now almost ubiquitous (in some quarters) announcement of “Welcome for the very first time, Mr. & Mrs…”, that is also (I’m told) a common theme at weddings of non-members of the tribe.

February 22, 2018 1:01 pm at 1:01 pm in reply to: Is the fact that 40% of the public school is Jewish any less of a tragedy #1474323JosephParticipantReu, even if you aren’t inaccurate in that, that point is meaningless to this discussion and situation.
JosephParticipantWhere did they make fun of any other tzedaka?
JosephParticipantGaon, if someone doesn’t drive the strong likelihood is that they’ll be outside less often than if they’re a licensed driver with a car.
JosephParticipantlaskern: Only if the beneficiary is a yehudi.
JosephParticipantPhil, while you’re focusing on the Rambam, I also cited, in the same sentence, the Shulchan Aruch on it. We do pasken from S”A even if not necessarily from the Rambam. The Shulchan Aruch doesn’t pasken two times; the Mechaber only psakens that women shouldn’t go outside too much, without specifying a number. This isn’t a “fake halacha”, Phil. This is an actual Psak in the Shulchan Aruch.
What is “too much” is probably different for each woman and each circumstance. But it certainly is Halacha l’maaisa that women should not be outside unnecessarily or too much. For example, girls or women certainly shouldn’t be congregating on street corners shmoozing. This is Halacha from Chazal, Shulchan Aruch and everything in between and since.
And this Psak from the Mechaber plays a direct part for the shittas that rule that women aren’t permitted to drive.
Regarding eyesores, if you c”v saw a Jew eating a cheeseburger in McDonald’s that too would be an eyesore. Ever seeing a Jew doing something inappropriate is an eyesore.

JosephParticipantHaLeiVi, Rav Moshe’s teshuva on Shabbos Clocks (timers) doesn’t mention anything about air conditioners. So how’s your point correct?
JosephParticipantWolf: I was pulling your leg.
JosephParticipant“it is a well known ma’amer of Chazal I am quoting. It refers, I believe, to eating. Not jumping.”
You believe the Chazal means that if someone failed to eat General Tso’s Chicken or Chinese food in his life, he’ll be punished in Shamayim?
JosephParticipantZilzul Shabbos is chopped liver?
JosephParticipant“Chazal say that one who fails to try something permissible will face din v’cheshbon.”
