WATCH THIS: NY County Legislator Has Meltdown; Offers Every Excuse In The Books To Escape Speeding Ticket

(VIDEOS IN EXTENDED ARTICLE)

A New York county legislator was caught on police dash cam as she had a major league meltdown after being stopped and given a ticket for speeding.

Ulster County Legislator Jennifer Schwartz Berky (D) was in Kingston, NY when she was pulled over earlier this year for driving over the speed limit. During the 30 minute encounter with Officer Gary Short, Berky had a panic attack in which she started hyperventilating, claimed to have PTSD, and made several complaints about the inconvenience of the stop.

The video was released last week following several legal requests, after months of suppression. Berry has since offered an apologetic statement for her behavior, while calling the stop a “humbling experience.”

From Berky’s statement, via the Daily Freeman:

“The video released earlier this week of my town of Ulster traffic stop captured a tough moment for me. Like so many working families, I too face tough times and stressful situations. As a professional, a public servant and a mother, I know my interaction with Police Officer Gary Short was unacceptable. I want to apologize to Officer Short and thank him for his patience and professionalism with me during a very difficult time.”

Here are the highlights of the 26 minute episode:

  1. not sure why this is shown
as a Hatzolah member for 40 years i have seen far too many panic attacks/hyperventilation some from PTSD and some with other other causes – it is a TRUE medical event!!
would not expect a video posting for entertainment value of a cancer patient rl retching from chemo after being pulled over , nor of a stutterer, nor of a deaf person rl communicating nervously with a police office SO WHY THIS??
we learnt this week of the punishment of hamlbin penai chavero bre-abim- cant think of a more perfect example!!
so sad it was shown and even more sad that the decision maker perceived that this piece of hurtful entertainment would be appreciated by the “yeshivasha velt”

I personally think the cop did a great job! If you are actually in the medical field, you’d know the law about requiring consent. She denied Tx. This actually happens quite often. Some think they’ll get out of the ticket!
