City Council to DA: Sandy Looters Should Be ‘Sentenced In Most Aggressive Way Possible

City Council members want lowlifes who took advantage of the devastation from Hurricane Sandy to commit crimes to pay a high price for their deeds.

In a sharply worded letter to city’s district attorneys and judges, Council Speaker Christine Quinn and members who represent storm-racked areas called for looters and other scammers to face the full force of the law.

“These crimes display a shocking lack of conscience,” the members wrote in a letter Tuesday to the state’s chief judge and the city’s five district attorneys.

Crimes like burglary surged in neighborhoods walloped by the storm even as other major crimes like murder fell to record lows, year-end crime stats show.

They should be “charged, disposed of, and sentenced in the most aggressive way possible given their disgraceful nature,” the pols wrote. “Anyone preying on those in crisis should have the book thrown at them.”
