Senator Booker Announces Support For Landmark Anti-BDS Bill; Lakewood Vaad Lauds Move

New Jersey Senator Cory Booker became the first likely 2020 Democratic presidential candidate in the Senate to sign on to the “Israel Anti- Boycott Act,” which is landmark federal legislation that makes it illegal to boycott Israel. The legislation takes aims at the international anti-Israel Boycott, Divest, Sanction (BDS) movement, which is promoting an economic war against Israel. The legislation makes it illegal for American companies to join foreign boycotts against Israel and protects Americans from being forced to participate in them.

The bill, supported by President Trump, has major Republican backing, with a strong majority signing on as co-sponsors. Senator Bob Menendez of NJ was an early co-signer, but the bill has struggled in getting broader Democratic support.

Senator Booker announced his support for the legislation after it was tweaked to avoid potential First Amendment issue, ensuring that it would survive future legal challenge by Palestinian supporters. Senator Booker is the fourteenth Democratic senator to support the bill. His high profile within the party increases Democratic support in the chamber and makes the bill wholly bi-partisan.

Over the past few years the Lakewood Vaad repeatedly expressed to Senator Booker our concern over growing left-wing anti-Semitism, the BDS movement, the anti-Semitism it promotes, and urged him to support this legislation.

“We are pleased that Senator Booker joins this battle against one of the worst embodiments of modern day anti-Semitism,” says Vaad spokesman Rabbi Moshe Zev Weisberg. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Senator on all matters of concern to Orthodox Jewry and to our country.”

  1. all matters to the orthodox jewish community what a bunch of nonsense , all matters lakewood wants to make sure their financial pockets are full , they care about bds like they care about medicaid fraud and vaccines l for measles

  2. It doesn’t surprise me that most republicans signed in favor of this pro Israel agreement, while most democrats have made excuses and NOT signed it. Maybe the several newly elected Muslim Democrats can sign it?

  3. This Democrat hopes gullible Jews will forget his support for giving nukes to Iran in order to destroy Israel when he runs in 2020 nomination.

  4. Hes a back stabber. Dont ,under any circumstances believe him.
All BMG is interested in is $$$$.
Stay away from this no goodnik ,rabid antisemite!

  5. What’s so controversial? AIPAC lined his pockets enough. Same thing they would have done with a Republican. None of these politicians genuinely care about us.

On a side note, I have learned from this comment section that you could pretty much copy and paste a speech by Hitler, replace the word “Jews” with “Lakewood Orthodox community,” and the mods would let it through.
