TENSIONS MOUNT: Hundreds Try Breaching Border; Tear Gas Fired; Trump Threatens To Close Entire Border [VIDEOS]

Some Central American migrants, mostly men, tried to breach the border crossing between Tijuana, Mexico and California on Sunday, after pushing past a blockade of Mexican police standing guard near the international border crossing in a bid to pressure the U.S to hear their asylum claims.

Mexico’s Milenio TV showed images of at least a few of the hundreds of migrants at the border tried to jump over the fence separating the two countries.

The migrants carried hand-painted American and Honduran flags and chanted: “We are not criminals! We are international workers!” The group mostly consisted of men, although some women pushed small children ahead in strollers.

Migrants approaching the U.S. border from Mexico have been enveloped with tear gas after a few tried to breach the fence separating the two countries.

U.S. agents shot the gas, according to an Associated Press reporter on the scene. Children were screaming and coughing in the mayhem.

On the U.S. side of the fence, shoppers streamed in and out of an outlet mall.

U.S. Border Patrol helicopters flew overhead, while U.S. agents held vigil on foot beyond the wire fence in California. The Border Patrol office in San Diego said via Twitter that pedestrian crossings have been suspended at the San Ysidro port of entry at both the East and West facilities.

More than 5,000 migrants have been camped in and around a sports complex in Tijuana after making their way through Mexico in recent weeks via caravan. Many hope to apply for asylum in the U.S., but agents at the San Ysidro entry point are processing fewer than 100 asylum petitions a day.

Some of the migrants who went forward Sunday called on each other to remain peaceful.

They appeared to easily pass through the Mexican police blockade without using violence.

A second line of Mexican police carrying plastic riot shields stood guard outside a Mexican customs and immigration plaza, where the migrants were headed.

That line of police installed tall steel panels behind them outside the Chaparral crossing on the Mexican side of the border, which completely blocked incoming traffic lanes to Mexico.

Irineo Mujica, who has accompanied the migrants for weeks as part of the aid group Pueblo Sin Fronteras, said the aim of Sunday’s march toward the U.S. border was to make the migrants’ plight more visible to the governments of Mexico and the U.S.

“We can’t have all these people here,” Mujica told The Associated Press.

Tijuana Mayor Juan Manuel Gastlum on Friday declared a humanitarian crisis in his border city of 1.6 million, which he says is struggling to accommodate the crush of migrants.

  1. In this past weeks haftorah, it mentions the yidden approaching the south border of edom, looking for refuge from their persecutors, and looking for food and water. I posted this in the coffee room, but apparently the mods dont approve.

  2. avreichamshlomo, they are not only asking for food and water…they and their children and likely their children’s children will take drain the already weak economy with free schooling, food stamps, crime control, medicaid ( or emergency room services that they never pay)…

Does that equal food and water to you?!

  3. Philosopher, most of the immigrants both legal and illegal work and pay taxes. Are we currently in a weak economy?
These people are coming as refugees fleeing violence in Central America.

  4. yakov …& co let them go to china. You , they insult this great country the its racist (whatever that means.. so why are they so eager to come here?

  5. Philisopher, you seem to be attacking what I have said. All I was doing was pointing out the similarities to the haftorah. Truth is, that is just one of the similarities. When did I say that Trump should let them in? And by the way, i misspoke, I meant food and health benefits, not food and water. The Haftorah says mazor, meaning health issues.

So without even looking at the haftorah to confirm what I am saying, you just start fighting. Truth is, none of your words even show you are jewish, or frum, so lets try to be on the same page.

  6. I am not an advocate of illegal immigrants coming into the country to weaken the economy. I AM an advocate of finding the news in the parsha, haftorah, etc.

Trumps statement about himself last sunday was also in the haftorah. He said he wishes he could go higher and higher, giving himself higher than an A rating. He said, “can I go higher than that?” Word for word almost in this past weeks haftorah.

TAKE A LOOK. Dont be an atzel, and then vehemently attack. Follow what the mesillas yesharim says to do, and keep looking.

  7. yaakov doe, are you really asking if the US economy is weak?! We owe billions for China and all the US government is doing is going up with taxes to try to plug an ever larger growing hole. The country is chugging along and one day it’s going to plotz ( and the Jews will be blamed for the collapse of the economy…)

The taxes the illegals are paying are absolutely not covering their childrens’ tuition, medical bills, crime control in their communities, food stamps, etc.

  8. avreichamshlomo, there is food and water in Mexico. No (ZERO!) comparison to the Jews in the Midbar in the Torah, Nazi Germany, or the inquisition. They were offered residency in Mexico but refused. Let me ask you, how many countries offered Jews residency when they were expelled from Spain or marched to their death in Nazi Germany? I really despise comparing and contrasting the news of today to our Jewish history, but you must understand that when you use Biblical references, corrections must be made to your analysis.

  9. “The taxes the illegals are paying are absolutely not covering their childrens’ tuition, medical bills, crime control in their communities, food stamps, etc.” A point of information, it is unlikely that the children of undocumented individuals pay tuition. In the secular world education is typically paid by local property taxes. The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (non profit non partisan think tank) estimates that undocumented individuals have contributed $11.6 Billion since 2016. This number includes payroll taxes and a variety of other taxes citizens pay (food, fuel, communications etc).

  10. I would also like to add there is a rumor circulating on a frum women’s forum that President Obama ordered illegal individuals to be tear gassed at ports of entry. This is entirely untrue but unfortunately people don’t research or fact check.
