Bloomys Congestion Pricing Plan Is Dead

bloomy.jpgWCBSTV is reporting that NY State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has decided against a vote on Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s congestion pricing plan Monday. This will likely be the end of the road for the controversial plan that would affect the millions of commuters who drive in and around Manhattan.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver refused to bring the proposal up for vote in his chamber, saying it did not have enough support in the Democrat-controlled house.

The decision was made following a closed-door meeting this morning.

The plan had called for drivers to pay an $8 toll for cars and $21 fee for trucks when entering Manhattan below 60th Street during peak hours Monday through Friday.

  1. Thank you Hashem
    Lev melochim vesorim beyad hashem
can you imagine? if someone has to go to manhatten on a daily basis for whatever reasons…he would have to pay ?????

  2. Thank G-D for that. Just because Bloomberg is worth billions, it gives him no right to practically choke regular citizens with extra tolls and choke small business owners. Enough already with higher taxes and tolls. In these economic turbulant times we should be given a break, not extra burdens. Anyone that suggests the pollution is destroying the city, go move to Cheyenne Wyoming.

  3. Don’t you love politics? Last month, everyone loved Simcha Felder, and hated Sheldon Silver (at least R’ Y Levin did). And now, . . . !

  4. They will probably find another way to ease congestion. You know, raise the GWB toll to $15 or start charging a toll on the Brooklyn bridge.

  5. B’H!

    ED Disorder!

Enough with the environmentalist, They are destroying the planet HEART by HEART, prices are sky rocketing because of our number #1 enemy called environmentalist ( A MENTAL DISORDER.

Last I checked the number 1 killer in the US came from HEART ATTACKS, People are trying to make ends meat end are stressed out to the core hence there is so much that little heart can take.

Let’s dig everywhere for oil & natural gas, build nuclear reactors so prices on everything will drop dramatically, we will have close to 0% of unemployment and people will live longer, and happier (except for those suffering from ED “Environmental Disorder”).

  6. now lets’ get to real business, for starters how about adding a few lanes to the FDR drive, West side highway? Simple.

  7. A SILVER BULLET IN THE CONGESTION PRICING PROPOSAL.

    Silver is the Lone Ranger!

…But Rabbi Levin is still right about him!

  8. It gives the Jewish community great pride that there is still one frum politician that has not been bought off by Michael Blomberg.

  9. when bloomberg was pushing this, he kept on pointing out that if the bill passed then the city would get 350 million for road improvements. Can somebody explain to me why this was so important if the toll itself would generate that in probably a week?

  10. Kudos to Shelly!!! Lets not forget the strongest driving force behind the opposition
RICHARD BRODSKY FOR GOVERNER!! Even Patterson was for it.

Bye bye Simcha you are still not getting my vote!!
To you all EnVIRO-MENTALists: The West-Side stadium would have also cut pollution?

  11. Thank you Shelley! An $8 toll would be totally absurd. Besides, the increased expense for the trucks would cause an increase in food prices which we are already suffering from because of the outrageous gas prices.

  12. Sorry you guys are a bunch of kleina kep…there is a serios problem with congestion ..if the buses..subways i.e. public transportation were improved people would not have to use cars so much..since it would cost to drive people would have an incentive do get out of there cars into public trans,

  13. This congestion pricing plan would only fuel the recession we are in, and furthermore, there is no indication it will alleviate the congestion problem, because people WILL PAY the $8 to drive their own cars.

Even according to the logic that it would help with congestion on the road by influencing drivers to take subways, there is no more room on the subways today, they are way too “congested”. Ever take a Q or B train during rush hour? You are squashed like a sardine and may have to stand during the entire ride.

    GOOD JOB ASSEMBLY SPEAKER SILVER!!!

  14. all these two faced people who are congrtulating silver now are the same people who knocked him 2 weeks ago he did what he had to then and he did what he had two now good job shelly bezechys you maybe eddie will have the zechus of leading our basketball team to the playoffs and the championships go shelly. i also want people to know all the good that shelly deos for jewish teens of the les keep it up shelly you had my vote and still have it

  15. Thank you Mr. Silver! I guess the politicians will have to find a new way to rob the hard working people! How would you like it if every time you went to work, it would cost you 8 dollers? Before you vote on something like this again, please think about all the people that don’t have the luxury of having their office a few blocks away from their house!

  16. Read the article carefully. Silver refused to even let it be voted on. It’s ridiculous! If people don’t like it, they won’t vote for it. We live in a democracy. One person isn’t supposed to control laws like this. Even if the president vetoes a bill it can sometimes still become law (if congress revotes). Congestion pricing may yet pass.

  17. To 30,

Shelly doesn’t either have his office next to his house. He came home from Albany this past Shabbos for a grandchilds Bar Mitsvah.

Mazel Tov Mr. Speaker!! Or actually double Mazel Tov! (for today too.)

  18. I don’t understand your excitement and praise of this man. I don’t live in NY, but last June, he was raked over the coals for another decision he made, regarding a “toeiva issue” (see http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=7950 – sorry, I don’t know how to make a link) Really, people. It’s great that you don’t have to pay (although they’ll prob find a diff way to raise money), but such unbelievable approval of a man who openly allows anti-Torah legislation to proceed? thank him, yes, but that’s all!
