Kiryas Joel: After Four Hours, Man Rescued In Trench Collapse

YW-KJ Trench Rescue-013.jpg(Click HERE for photos) After four hours, rescue personnel were finally able to free a construction worker who was sucked into the ground in a trench collapse. YWN had posted the story (HERE) at 6:30PM, and it took more than three hours to get the man out. Kiryas Joel FD and Hatzolah were on the scene in minutes, after receiving calls of the cave-in at a construction site at 154 Acres Road.

Upon their arrival, they saw how difficult the rescue would be, and quickly called for mutual aid to respond.

Dozens of specialized rescue personnel, as well as various of pieces of equipment were rushed to the scene – from as far away as Monticello.

A Medevac had landed on the scene, and was standing-by awaiting the rescue.

Eventually, a large “vacuum-type-machine” was used to suck out the mud and dirt, and the man was pulled to safety. Witnesses tell YWN that he was conscious and alert upon his removal.
