Can Maccabi Tel Aviv Reach the Champions League Group Stage?

Maccabi Tel Aviv are working towards making the Champions League group stage. Just one game stands between them and success, and they have home advantage in it.

Tel Aviv take on Dinamo Brest from Belarus in the final round of qualifying for the premier club competition in Europe. This will be a one-off game like the previous rounds have all been so far, giving Tel Aviv an advantage by playing at home. The game will take place on September 16 and after we know the outcome, one of these teams will be able to look forward to potentially meeting some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

You have to go back to 2015 to find the last time this team played in the Champions League group stage, it has been a long time coming but now they are on the brink.

What Has Happened So Far?

Maccabi Tel Aviv have had to play two games to get to this stage, and they have been very impressive so far. First up they won 2-0 at home to Riga and then followed that up with a fantastic 30 away win at Suduva. With five goals scored and none conceded, the path so far has been kind to Tel Aviv.

Their game against Dinamo Brest will represent their toughest challenge yet, though not one they should be scared of, this is certainly a game that Tel Aviv can win.

The two qualifying games that Brest have played so far have both contained goals. They won 6-3 in the first game against Astana, and followed that up with a 2-1 victory over Sarajevo to reach this stage.

At this stage of the competition, bookmakers will take bets on who will go through to the next round and this won’t just see interest in Israel, but it will be all around the world. There are many places where you can place bets on Champions League football, sports betting in India is not illegal and that is one of the places where wagers can be placed on games like this one.

It isn’t just Maccabi Tel Aviv that will benefit if they manage to reach the Champions League group stage, Israeli football as a whole will see a benefit too. This will come due to added exposure to the league, and may result in more people tuning in to see what the Israeli Premier League is all about.

As a club, Maccabi Tel Aviv have managed to dominate their home league in recent years but they have failed to translate that into success in Europe. The Champions League brings additional funds that can be spent on the team, something that always comes in useful.

The game against Dinamo Brest is not only one to see if Tel Aviv can make the Champions League or not, but it is also one that could give them the funds to continue their Israel dominance. With plenty at stake, this is one to watch for Tel Aviv fans in September.
