New Jersey: Senate Panel to Debate Exemptions on Vaccines

vaac.jpgA New Jersey Senate panel today plans to debate whether to let parents exempt their children from vaccines. Sponsors say the legislation to be discussed by the Senate health committee would give parents the right to manage their child’s health as they deem appropriate.

But medical experts fear such exemption laws might allow fatal diseases to make a comeback.

State law requires immunizations as a condition for attending public and private schools, preschools and day care facilities.

This includes immunizations for diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, measles, rubella, polio, mumps, chickenpox, the flu and hepatitis B.

While medical experts hail the vaccines for successfully quelling the spread of deadly diseases, some parents fret about giving children dozens of vaccine doses and don’t want government dictating their medical decisions.

Such laws have been approved in 19 other states.

  1. Wow! what a hard decision to make!
Do we say the parents should have the right to decide if their child should take a vaccine, or should we say that the government should make these decisions?

I for one, don’t think the the government should be involved in this case. The same way they shouldn’t be involved in your child’s education.

Just another example of liberal idiocy!

  2. Thank G-D, sanity prevails at last.

The big drug companies have literally been getting away with murder, pumping all kinds of diseases into our children, with the excuse that vaccines may prevent disease.

The CDC Government agency has recently admitted that all these vaccines are linked to the huge increase in autistic children.–think about it!

  3. #1, this is not simply a medical decision affecting one’s own child, this is about COMMUNICABLE DISEASES that can easily spread from one child to the next! If you don’t want to protect your child, fine, but don’t send him to school and endanger mine! Do you realize that there were quite a few documented measles outbreaks this year in frum communities where, unfortunately, it has become a growing trend NOT to immunize children. (And since some vaccines are not given till a child is 1 or 1 1/2, all babies are at risk if exposed!)

Today, there are many middle aged adults who wish that the polio vaccine was discovered a few years earlier! They are living with permanant diabilities because they contracted this disease as a child!

I won’t go in to all the stats and all the debates, but I definitely feel that the government is required to protect our schools from avoidable communicable diseases! If you are so against immunizing, then home school your kids!

  4. The real question is, if parents choose not to vaccinate their children, and their children then get that particular virus, should the insurance companies cover the cost of treatment.

  5. # 2. Can you point me to any source where this was admitted?

    # 1. I think there is a far greater justification for government intervention here than in most other instances where government intervenes. Your decision not to vaccinate your children affects my children also. The truth is those who don’t vaccinate their children are relying on the fact that other people’s children are vaccinated so tbat they are less likely to catch it. The problem is there are more and more people relying on it to the point where a significant percentage of children are not getting basic vaccines.

I don’t know the science of the risk/reward of getting vaccines, but I don’t believe all the scaremongering about vaccines (at least until I see more evidence) just like I don’t believe all the scaremongering about global warming.

  6. Deepthinker, the very “diseases” that you claim are being innoculated into our children are the vaccines which are protecting them from some of the most deadly illnesses that would kill hundreds if not thousands of our children such as diphtheria and polio!

  7. A couple of points;

    1) Autisim is not the only side affect that people are concerned with when vacinating their children – how about mercury poisining (which has nothing to do with autisim)? Celiacs disease? and many other detrimental side affects that we remain unaware of.

    2) There are certain vaccines whose benefits outweight the potential side affects such as Polio, Measles, Mumps etc. But why should I be compelled to give my child the chickenpox vaccine when the maker Merck does not know how long the vaccine remains effective. I would prefer that my child contract chickenpox and be gauranteed immunity for life. The vaccine has caused the chickenpox virus to mutate and now it is much nastier.

There is definitly a place for vaccines but the question remains why should the government, who is strongly influenced by the drug companies, dictate which vaccine my child gets? Why isn’t it the decision of a Doctor? Why should an argument for me to vaccinate my child be – well if you don’t vaccinate he won’t be able to attend a school?

  8. A couple of things:

    1) Autisim is not the only thing which concerns people who hesitate to vaccinate their children. All of the studies (which are sponsored by the drug makers which questions the independce and integrity of the study) show that autisim is not linked to vaccinations. What about mercury poisining? Celiacs diesease? and many other side affects which remain unknown.

    2) Why is something like the chickenpox vaccine mandated by the government? This is not a fatal disease many of us had this virus growing up. The major reason for giving this vaccine is so mothers should’t lose two weeks of work. Merck the vaccine maker doesn’t know how long this vaccine remains effective. Why can’t I choose for my son to contract the virus and be garaunteed immunity for life? Are you aware that the vaccine has caused the virus to mutate and become stronger? Are you aware the vaccines are one of the causes listed for bacteria becoming resistant to antibiotics? Vaccines are not all bad but they are not all good and drug companies who stand to gain billions of dollars should not be dictating which vaccines our children recieve. And yes it is the drug companies lobbying for these vaccines to become mandated by the government.

  9. #2: With the excuse that vaccines may prevent disease. -?-

Have you heard of Jonas Salk? Are you aware that in 1952, upwards of 57,000 children were infected with polio? And that with the introduction of the vaccine rates dropped by over 85% in two years and today is virtually nonexistent in the developed world?

I shudder to think what the world would look like today if people like you were in charge.

  10. O.K. I accept the challenge:

The CDC is talking out of both sides of their mouth on this issue. They admit it causes autism, then they hedge. Here is the video of the CDC head talking bout this issue, with commentary. You judge for yourself:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-kirby/can-vaccines-cause-autism_b_94040.html

In 1976, children received 10 vaccines before attending school, and in the early 1980s, the incidence of autism was 1 in 10,000 births. Today it is 1 in 150 births and still climbing.

Well, by the time your child starts school he or she will have received more than 36 injections, including four doses each of vaccines for Hemophilus influenzae type b infections, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis — all of them given during the first 12 months of life.

Is there a connection between autism and vaccines? I’d say so. And a pretty obvious one at that. If you are interested in the science behind this connection, Dr. Russell Blaylock has written an excellent paper that provides a connection between excessive vaccination and neurodevelopmental disorders like autism that is definitely worth reading.

Oh yes, that members of the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) — the one that promulgates a self-serving, one-size-fits-all vaccine policy — are known to have ties to vaccine makers. And their compulsory vaccination schedule, that’s required of nearly every U.S. child who is entering public school, has made many of these vaccine makers rich beyond their wildest imaginations.

  11. To Flatbush Bubby (no. 7):

Keep an open mind. think about this:

“According to the World Health Statistics Annual of 1973-1976 said that there had been a steady decline in infectious diseases in most developing countries regardless of vaccines administered. They believe that the diseases disappeared as a result of improved sanitation, improved water supplies improved personal hygiene and better nutrition. In addition, diseases for which there were no vaccines also declined dramatically. From 1850 to 1940, diseases had declined by 90% and were at an all time low, just when vaccines were being introduced.”

  12. To CMS,
I don’t think that the chicken pox vaccine is a mandated vaccine. To all others- I don’t know if the government should force you to take vaccinations, but if you don’t- you shouldn’t be allowed to go any public place with your children such as schools, shuls, stores, etc. Recently there has been reported a lot of measles outbreaks – unfortunately even with the law people manage to circumvent the vaccinations. Either the schools are lax in oversight or people forge the documents. It’s unlikely that vaccines are associated with any disease (just because some people have theories in science doesn’t make it true until it is proven; Darwin has a theory called Evolution- I guess you people believe in that theory along with this one because most human beings and scientists have accepted it), but if they were associated with some disease -the benefits of the vaccine outweigh any possible risk!!

  13. CMS, since when do vaccines cause celiac disease? Celiac disease, also called gluten intolerance, has been documented to have existed before vaccines were used; it tends to run in families, so there’s clearly a genetic component as well (& it is more common in certain ethnic groups as well, for example the Irish). This would argue against vaccines causing celiac disease. Please cite the research indicating a link between vaccines & celiac disease.

  14. The Chickenpox shot is mandated I was told by the pediatrician if my child does not get the chickenpox shot he will not be able to attend school. My children have been vaccinated for Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Diptheria, and Tetnas. In a discussion with the nurse at my childs birth whether or not to give him the Hepatitis B shot I was told – “oh we don’t give that in the hospital anymore it turns out there was something in the vaccine that was detrimental to the newborns” thanks for letting me know what about all kids that got it and suffered that detriment?

Oh and for all those that believe all of the government/drug company studies – how do you explain the recent FDA change of mind with respect to mercury fillings. Turns out those are also harmful – how many of you have been saying for years oh the govt says its ok, so it must be ok?

  15. To Deepthinker,
I agree with you on all vaccine issues but i can’t figure out why anyone should allow an injection of a foreign substance into their bodies without proof that it works (which of course doesn’t exist). I was curious if you know anything about Synagis. It works differently than a vaccine and doesn’t have any preservatives, but then again there is no proof that it works.
