VP Pence Set To Attend Biden Inauguration

Vice President Mike Pence is expected to attend President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration..

That’s according to two people – one close to Pence and one familiar with the inauguration planning. The people spoke on condition of anonymity Thursday because the plans had yet to be finalized.

The news comes a day after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol to stop the congressional confirmation of Biden’s victory, with some angrily shouting that they were looking for Pence.

Trump had told his supporters that Pence had the power to reject electoral votes and make him the president instead of Biden, even though he didn’t have that authority. The pressure campaign created a rare public rift between the men after years of Pence’s uncheckered loyalty.

Pence’s press secretary Devin O’Malley tweeted Thursday: “You can’t attend something you haven’t received an invitation to….”

But it is customary for an outgoing vice president to attend the inauguration. Outgoing President Donald Trump has not said whether he plans to attend.

Biden will be inaugurated in Washington on Jan 20.

  1. If Trump doesn’t attend, it will push further into political oblivion his reputation and political prospects of anyone named Trump.

Pence is positioning himself to run for election in 2024. He’s a mentch and he has a shot at it.

  2. He shouldn’t attend, and neither should Trump. NO Republican should attend. The Democrats boycotted Trump’s inauguration. Republicans should return the compliment with interest. Biden will be president, but with an asterisk; he will be known as His Fraudulence, and should always be addressed that way. He will not be legitimate and nobody should give him any legitimacy. Republicans should proudly and openly resist him at every step, and put every possible barrier in his way. And if the Democrats carry out their threat to pack the senate and the supreme court, and abolish the filibuster, then there SHOULD be riots and violence and arson. They should know that such a move will cost them dearly.

  3. Trump should attend, clap, shake hands and put the squabbles behind him until he and or another Republican begins the race for the 2024 election.

  4. To silentmoishe: Being a mentsch is a permanent condition. For the entire Trump term in office, Pence has not been a mentsch. One sensible act does not change that.
