Afghanistan’s last Jew, Zebulon Simentov, who was evacuated from Afghanistan earlier this month, signed a get for his wife in New York on Erev Yom Kippur.
Moti Kahana, an Israeli-American businessman who runs a private security group that organized Simentov’s evacuation, convinced Simentov to grant his wife a get prior to evacuating him and Simentov fulfilled his commitment. He signed the get over Zoom in the presence of two rabbis and Kahana.
“I did something good for the new year,” Kahana wrote on Twitter afterward. “I helped a woman receive a get. I’m not sure it’s kosher. There will definitely be arguments – we’re Jews! But we’re living in the 21st century and Zoom exists.”

If you’re not sure it’s kosher than you did something terrible, definitely not good
Husbands don’t sign gittin. And I don’t know what it means he signed the get over zoom. So something missing from this story

There is no question about the signature being “kosher”, because the husband does not sign the get in the first place. Whatever he signed was not a get, or at least not a kosher get. My guess is that he signed an statement that he authorizes the witnesses to write and deliver the get on his behalf — and no signature is required on such an statement. It can be (and usually is) oral, and it can be done over the phone, so it can certainly be done on zoom.
The guy who organized it admits it isn’t kosher. what kind of nonsense is this? Convene a proper Beis Din, and let this man free his poor wife, according to Halacha.
