Two Years After the War & Hizbullah is a Greater Threat

nasrallah11.gifTwo years following the Second Lebanon War Hizbullah presents a greater threat to Israel than prior to the war. According to intelligence reports, the terror organization has about three times the number of missiles than prior to the war and it also has surface-to-surface rockets capable of reaching deep into Israel.

No one has enforced the implementation of the Second Lebanon War ceasefire, based on UN Resolution 1701, demanding that Hizbullah disarm. Weapons and ammunition continue to flow to Hizbullah from Iran and Syria.

Israel is planning to turn to the United Nations, asking to expand the size of the UNIFIL force which is position to prevent Hizbullah from fortifying itself in southern Lebanon, Israel’s northern border.

In the meantime, in northern Israel, the picture in Kiryat Shmona is one of disarray. In the border city which was hit with about 1,000 rockets during the war, the new command center is still not completed, nor are ongoing repairs from the damage incurred two years ago ending any time soon. Officials point out that if a war erupts today, there is no structure suitable to serve as a command center.

In another unfortunate reality, many feel that the ongoing virtual ceasefire with Hamas is serving the terror organization well, permitting terrorists to take a break and restock, to return fortified and ready to deliver a blow to IDF forces operating in the area.
