Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio says he’s considering a run for Congress after a legal battle over the state’s political maps opened up a seat in Brooklyn.

The two-term Democrat, who left office at the end of 2021, said Wednesday that he’s formed an exploratory committee for New York’s 10th Congressional District. The Democratic-heavy district will include a large slice of western Brooklyn, where he lives.

New York’s 10th District is currently represented by Democratic U.S. Rep. Jerry Nadler, but the state’s political maps are being redrawn under supervision of a New York judge after a court found they were unconstitutional and gerrymandered in favor of Democrats.

The court this week unveiled new proposed maps that significantly draw a number of New York City-based districts. Nadler said he believed the maps were changed so much that they are also unconstitutional, but if the proposed districts become final at the end of this week, he intends to run in the 12th District representing Manhattan.

The primary contest has been pushed back from June to August 23.

De Blasio toyed with running for governor this year before deciding to sit it out. He also had a short-lived run for president in 2019.

  1. Reb Eliezer, labeling everything? DeBozio Andy his ilk are admitted and proud socialists. I think on this case, for once, YWN is presenting a fair and balanced article title. If the term socialist offends you, well, you get what you voted for.

  2. NYC is a 3rd world hellhole thanks to this communists political decision making. This moron is Exhibit A that in politics, politicians only fail up. Exhibit B would be our idiot affirmative action VP, Kamala Emhoff.

  3. I think there is a big difference running a city and representing district. Running a city is about policy, setting a a plan for running a large company or corporation. Agree with him or disagree with him he felt liberal WOKE policies are the way to run this corporation called the city of new york. Someone running a district is more about putting a chicken on every plate or bringing home the bacon. When He was our councilman, he was able to do that.

  4. “Editor. stop labeling everything…’
Reb E: Its gotten a bit childish. Every story about a Biden glitch or a stupid comment from one of the lefty Dems has a label, “Watch This” or something similiar. The News pages used to be sort of “fair and balanced” but clearly the “click-bait” potential of adding some outraged teaser-tag to the headline seems to have become the norm. Yet, when Trump makes one of his most stupid comments like “stop counting” in Pennsylvania Republican primary when his guy Dr. Oy gets a few vote lead, the only headline is “Trump has Big Day in Pennsylvania”. We have more than enough Trump acolytes in the CR and don’t need them posting editorials on the new page.
