A Friday afternoon explosion�in a Queens�apartment building sent 10 people to the hospital, YWN has learned.�
According to various FDNY sources, calls came into 911 at approximately 4:30PM reporting an explosion in a�90 unit, six-story building located at 147-25 Sanford Avenue in the Flushing section of Queens.
According to CBS2, the explosion charred the second through fifth floors of the building as it’s believed something in a second floor apartment caused the detonation. Following the explosion, a�two-alarm fire continued to burn, but was contained by firefighters shortly after they arrived.
Two of the 10 injured were listed as critical,�and seven residents were said to be non-fatal.
It’s not yet known what caused the explosion, though officials suspect that�gas may have been the cause.
FDNY Fire Marshals, along with utility companies are on the scene conducting an investigation at this time.
