candle727.gif8:25PM EST: [UPDATE IN EXTENDED ARTICLE] We regret to inform you of the tragic Petira of 16-year-old Bochur (teenager) Yoel Yehuda Levi Z”L who fell out of a tree at the Kiryas Yoel Camp in Green County. Following the 20+ foot fall, a medevac was unable to fly him to a Trauma Center due to his unstable condition, and he was transported by ground (ambulance) to a local hospital. Sadly, he was Niftar a short time after arriving at the hospital.

The noted Askan and Chaplain of the Green County Sheriff Department Rabbi Aryeh Leib Glantz is working along with Kiryas Yoel Hatzolah to have the body released and transported back towards the city.

UPDATE 9:00PM EST: Special Assistant to the Superintendent of the NYSP Rabbi Bernard Freilich has informed YWN that the state police are working to have the Niftar released ASAP. Additionally, Kiryas Joel Public Safety Director Moses Witriol is en route to the hospital where the Niftar currently is to assist in expediting the arrangements.

The Niftar is a son of Rav Yosef Dovid Levi Shlita a Magid Shiur in Satmar in Kiryas Yoel, and his grandfather is Rav Yosef Leib Cohen, the Menahel in the Yeshiva Gedolah in Kiryas Yoel.

UPDATE 11:30PM EST: The Levaya is scheduled for 1:00AM EST at the Kiryas Yoel Bais Hakvaros, followed by the Kevura in the Satmar Chelka at the Washington Cemetery in Brunswick New Jersey.

  1. There are no words for times like these….so many tragedies in one week. I only hope we all take the message so its not in vain. may Hashem give the families strength.

  2. This is a terrible story but what i cant understand is that 2 years ago the same story happened in a different camp that a bachur fell off a tree and died R”L how come we dont learn a lesson DO NOT CLIMB ON TREES!

  3. A poshiter Yid:
You need to get the facts straight. He did not die. He was B”H successfully revived by Hatzolah Medics enroute to the hospital!!

Also, can anyone explain why a Kiryas Yoel family would choose New Brunswick over Kiryas Yoel for a cemetery?

  4. Happy,

Never cross the road, too many died this way. An accident can happen all over hashem yerachem!Climbing in a tree is a normal, healthy ‘sport’ to do in camp

  5. Nebech! Burech Dayen HuEmes!

The Bucher’s name is HaBucher HaChushev “Yoel Yida Lowi” A”H.

RY”D is the son of R’ “Moshe Yakov Aharon” from KY (Son of HaNuged R’ “Yitzchock Lowi”, Vice President of Khal Yetev Lev D’Satmar – KY).

  6. About the question why they choose NJ.
Satmar has a policy that a Yingel or Bucher who pass away they are trying not to bury them in KY. since the parents are going up a lot to the Tziyan, especially if the family is living in KJ. (& now its even more, that the father / grand father is a Magid Shiar / Mnahal in the Yeshiva which is next to the Beis HaChayim.

washington cemetary was the origional bais hachaim for satmar. i was told that the origional plans were also to include the satmara rebbi. however, once the stetel of monroe was established the emphasis was the bais olam in kj.i know that today many new york residents of satmar still opt for the washington cematary over kj.its closer and members of the family lie there.
it definitely was a tragedy that happened with that young boy that fell off the tree.
hamoken y’nachem the mispocheh on this tragic loss.

It’s easier to cross a street safely (under the proper guidelines) then climbing a tree which requires more balancing.

  9. Regarding NJ: Once upon a time was a Chusheva father who lost his 17 yo son. & the father use to sit ALL NIGHTS (no joke) at the Keiver of his libling.
so the Hanhulas Chevra Kadisha decided that young kids should be barried in NJ.
its much eassier for a family to go up to the Tziyan (in time of one of the Rabbe’s or family Yur-Tzeit) when their young kid is not there.
I know someone who never went up since he lost his child & they barried his (for some reason) in KY. (only on the kids Yurtzeit).
The other kid who fell from the elevator they also put him in NJ.
