British Metropolitan Police made two arrests Thursday morning in connection with antisemitic social media posts, detaining candidates for the United Kingdom’s Green Party on suspicion of inciting racial hatred.
The arrests of Saiqa Ali and Sabine Mairey represent an escalation in law enforcement scrutiny of online antisemitic speech in Britain. Both were taken into custody for questioning under Section 19 of the Public Order Act, according to reporting by the Telegraph.
The investigation centered on social media activity spanning multiple platforms. Investigators identified numerous posts containing antisemitic content, conspiracy theories, and comparisons between Israeli government actions and Nazi-era crimes.
Ali had maintained a presence across Instagram and Facebook. On Instagram, she shared images incorporating Hamas imagery alongside slogans about resistance. In other posts, she promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories, including claims that Israel orchestrated the September 11 attacks and controlled elements of the U.S. government through “Zionist Jews.”
One graphic shared by Ali depicted a young girl asking a question about American Middle East policy, with a response attributing U.S. alignment to what the image described as Israeli blackmail. Another post contained a caricature alongside text making sweeping claims about Jewish people and the Holocaust.
Mairey’s posts included content saying that ramming a vehicle into a synagogue is “revenge.” She also shared imagery from Holocaust sites alongside text suggesting Israeli conduct exceeded historical atrocities.
