Gedolei Torah Shlita has released a kol korei for the tzibur to make certain that the frivolities and festivities of Purim are not at the expense of Torah study.
“…The Torah protects and saves” says a portion of the text, which calls on “every single person” to increase Torah study on Purim, calling on yeshivas and kollelim to ensure there is a seder limud on Purim.
Signatures on the letter include Maran Rav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita, Rav Michal Yehuda Lefkowitz Shlita, and Maran Rav Shteinman Shlita.

i undrstand why everything else is upside down but BACHURIM LEARNING SHOULD BE RIGHT SIDE UP btw the levaya candle is rightside up
Sucha kol korei should include guidelines for drinking the night after taanis Esther.
Well being in the “Ipchedige” mode……I just wonder:
We’ve had Yeshivas, etc. for a nice few hundred years. Purim was always a day, where It’s mesugal to learn. Our past gedolim, going back to the Talmud, were AT LEAST as great as the Gedolim of our times (not to belittle C”V our Gedolim) how come never ever was there a generation which saw the necessasity to issue KOL KORE’s about Learning on Purim?
Even in our generation since WWII, there were no MASS announcements about this. WHY?
Because there was no need for it since it was pashut to everyone. Unfortunately in our dor we need such a reminder. Similarly to a mechalel shabbos who needs a reminder to close the store on Shabbos.
One of the worst problems with these Jewish sites is how it has become a permissible forum to criticize and second guess our Gedolei Olam as everyone and their cousin is surley more withit and up to date than they are R”L.
Whereas in a regular conversation one would hold back as he is embarrassed but due to the inherent anonymity of the internet all and sundry feel free to attack and level our Gedolim (I am not necessarily talking about you #3. Maybe we should all feel a bit more Yiras Shomayim. See theParsha Potpurri atthe beginning of today’s YWN and see what is writen about Mordechai and the Yidden.
A Freilchan Purim!
Good point. I for one shouldn’t have written “should”. Maybe, “it would be nice if,” etc. Thanks for the reminder.
