ALERT – Construction & Traffic Pattern For NYS Thruway Summer 2009

traffi1.jpgReconstruction work at the Harriman Toll Plaza at Interchange 16, as part of the Woodbury Highway Speed E-ZPass project, on the New York State Thruway is underway and will be ongoing this summer.

During peak travel times, i.e. northbound PM weekdays exiting the Thruway, entering the Thruway AM weekdays, and on the weekends, at least three (3) staffed and two (2) dedicated E-ZPass lanes will be available to customers. The Authority does not anticipate any unusual delays due to this construction project during these times.

This work will require the reconstruction of all toll lanes at the Harriman Toll Plaza, as repairs to the pavement and toll lanes, including drainage, treadles, electronic toll collection equipment and attenuator work, are performed. The approached and departures to the toll plaza will also be reconstructed.

The Authority will activate Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR)  530 AM and 1610 AM in order to advise motorists  of current conditions. The Authority appreciates motorist’s patience ans understanding while work on this essential project takes place.

YWN thanks Richard F. Newhouse, Assistant New York Division Director, Operations of the New York State Thruway Authority for giving his time to our reporter, and sharing this information with the public.

  1. it seems to me that the state always pick the summer months for their construction needs , creating terrible bottlenecks for frum mountain weekenders. at the same time it is ideal for them to do the work when the weather is nice .all frum people should allow themselves a lot of extra hours traveling before shobbas to the mountains.
