ZAKA Sends Hundreds of Body Bags To The Knesset

zbb.jpgIn line with Tuesday being observed as a national day for accident awareness and prevention, Zaka decided to make a point, sending hundreds of body bags imprinted with the Zaka logo to the Knesset, bags that were stuffed to give the appearance that they contained bodies.

Zaka’s point is that even if you are not responsible for a vehicular accident, it can happen to anyone, and therefore, this must become a national priority. Police add that while accident fatalities have declined some 25%, too many people are being killed and injured on the nation’s roads, numbering over 25,000 fatalities since the establishment of the state in 1948.

Legislators are taking steps, including the ban of the sale of alcoholic beverages during the late night and predawn hours. Minister of Transportation Yisrael Katz also favors raising the minimum driving age to 19 or 20.

At the time of this report, 323 people were killed on the nation’s roadways since January 1, 2009.

  1. Hard to believe that a good idea would come out of the Israeli legislature, but this IS… “ban of the sale of alcoholic beverages during the late night and predawn hours.” This the main time young people going out to “party” go buy their liquor. It obviously is not a total solution to the problem, but I think it can definitely save lives. We should tell our legislators HERE to pass such a law!
