  1. What is the heter for a frum person sitting as a secular judge?

She may have to judge yidden. She can’t apply halacha. And a woman can’t be a judge by yidden.

  2. The frum judge its the one in bold font: Arnold Goldman of Lakewood (check the headline, and correlate it with the names and locations of the judges).

    Duh!

  3. Arnold “Buddy” Goldman is a member of sons of israel and is one great guy, good luck on the appointment.

  4. Arnold “Buddy” Goldman is a native Lakewooder – his parents owned a hotel, and his shver was the long-time owner of the “Condos” on 6th & Forest.

He is a “shayne yid” in Cong. Sons of Israel, and I believe is personally very close to Rabbi Tendler.

  5. Rabbi Elozor ben Rabbi Shimon pakened exlusively al pin din Torah. A secular judge today must rule according to secular law. For example a woman is pasul l’eidus. In secular court a woman can give testimony.

And as said previously, a woman cannot sit as a dayan.

  6. I thought they were against it even though he paskened al pi din, but that is even more reason why a yid shouldnt be a secular judge.

  7. ‘For example a woman is pasul l’eidus’

A woman,an eved, family members etc. But what if these people have solid proof, not just their eyewitness account?

  8. nameless, in Bais Din 2 eyewitness accounts are the primary eidus that Bais Din utilizes in its rulins. ”scientific evidence” and ”circumstantial evidence” are concepts that Bais Din eschews.

  9. nameless, if the crime goes down in such a way that the only “witnesses” are the ones that you mentioned, the perp may walk, however, in the overall scheme of things, the Judge of all judges will deliver the punishment as befits the crime.
