Office of Consumer Protection to Enforce Yom Tov Prices On Kosher Items

kosher logo1.jpgIn light of the upcoming Yomim Tovim, the Rockland County Office of Consumer Protection Thursday announced that it has begun to survey prices of kosher food items by looking for fluctuations in pricing to help ensure that retailers do not arbitrarily raise prices.

“We want to determine a baseline for prices now, and then as the holidays approach, we can compare prices to assure that sellers are not taking advantage of consumers by increasing their prices without justification,” said Terry Grosselfinger, the County’s Director of Consumer Protection and Public Advocate.

Consumers are encouraged to report these incidents to the Office of Consumer Protection by calling 845-708-7600.

If it is determined that retailers are increasing prices without justification, the Office of Consumer Protection will take appropriate action.
