Arab MKs Stand Firm – Showing Their Loyalty

No one can accuse Israeli Arab Members of Knesset of not knowing where their loyalty lies, with the PA (Palestinian Authority).

Speaking in Knesset on Tuesday, Arab MKs called upon the PA to go ahead with its unilateral declaration of Palestinian Statehood with or without American backing. MK Dr. Ahmad Tibi explained that there is simply no reason to postpone the move, describing Israel’s position as “disturbed and confused”.

Tibi added that at this time, it is simply ridiculous for America and European allies of Israel to seek to prevent the creation of Palestine, acting on what he calls a “double standard”, adding the Americans simply have nothing to offer the PA. Tibi, a former senior aide to Yasser Arafat, insists that the PA has much more to lose by delaying the move than it stands to gain.

MK Jamal Zahalka agrees, calling upon the PA not to back down and move ahead with the planned move in the United Nations later this month.

The two are critical of PA leaders in Ramallah, who are exhibiting a position of uncertainty, in no small part due to mounting American pressure.

Israel has warned that the unilateral move would signal an abrupt end to any and all commitments under the agreements signed between Israel and the PA since September 13, 1993, the signing of the Oslo Agreement.

  1. Former Speaker of the House, Tip O’Neill said it best: “All politics are local”. Like any good politician, these arab MKs are only reflecting the views of their constituents who are almost 100 percent in support of the PA seeking U.N. recognition later this month as a means of putting pressure on Netanyahu to move forward on final peace negotiations.

  2. Don’t believe all Arabs of Israel want a Palestinian state. They want an Israeli passport since they know how difficult it will be to live under total Palestinian control. You don’t bribe you don’t build, you don’t work, you don’t rent, etc etc etc
