False Alarm Regarding Missing Mashgiach In Morocco

There were a few hours of panic on Wednesday (22 Elul) among rabbonim from a heimesh hashgacha in New York after they could not contact a mashgiach who was sent ahead to prepare for operations in Morocco. The mashgiach was planning to meet with a local schach (Sukka covering) merchant and the two would travel a distance to the location of the schach, in Agadir. When the mashgiach could not be reached, fears for his safety become apparent.

Back in the United States, the decision was made to enlist assistance and a British diplomatic official in NY was contacted since the missing mashgiach holds UK citizenship.

Towards evening, hours later, a decision was made to turn to the head of the chareidi kehila in Agadir, seeking assistance. Later in the night, the mashgiach arrived in the Agadir shul, then learning of the concerns for his well-being. He explained that along his long route there simply was no cell phone connectivity.

Officials in the United States breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing of the mashgiach’s safe arrival in Agadir.
