Westchester Trauma Center (Valhalla) Laying Off 250 Employees

The Westchester Medical Center has announced that 250 employees will receive layoff notices.

President and CEO Michael Israel calls the decision “gut-wrenching.”

According to the Journal News the medical center is also eliminating 104 vacant positions.

The moves are projected to save $30 million next year. That’s only half of what the medical center needs to close its budget gap.

The job cuts include 132 nurses. Their union is expressing concern that some of the remaining nurses could have their hours cut in half.

Officials had initially said up to 620 full-time jobs could be cut by the end of the year if they couldn’t reach cost-saving agreements with unions.
