Madison Avenue Bank Evacuated Due to Suspicious Package – All Clear Given [UPDATED 12:30PM EST]


12:30PM EST: A midtown bank building was briefly evacuated Wednesday after a suspicious package was detected that later turned out to be camera equipment.

The building at 1 Madison Avenue was evacuated around noon and people were let in about 20 minutes later.

The package was detected in the mailroom at Credit Suisse.

11:45AM EST: The NYPD Bomb Squad is on the scene investigating a suspicious package that was received this morning at the Credit Suisse bank on Madison Avenue, officials say.

The building at 1 Madison Avenue was evacuated.

The contents of the package weren’t immediately known, nor was it clear what raised the mailroom clerks’ suspicions about it.

The NYPD bomb squad and the FBI are both at the scene investigating.

There’s nothing at this point to cause any concern, according to sources.

Madison Avenue has been closed from East 23 Street to East 26 Street.
