New York To Receive $93 Million In Disaster Relief Federal Grants

New York State will receive over $93 million in disaster relief to help communities hard hit by Tropical Storms Irene and Lee. The funds are for disaster relief, long-term recovery, and restoration of infrastructure, housing, and economic revitalization in counties that received a disaster declaration last year.

Those counties include Columbia, Delaware, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, and Westchester.

In the wake of the two storms that hit New York, along with other disasters nationwide last year, Congress has appropriated $400 million for disaster relief in the form of Community Development Block Grants Disaster Relief.

New York had disaster declarations issued in 48 of its 60 counties last year, and will receive $93 million directly from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. Orange County alone will receive $11.2 million in HUD funding.
