Ashdod Officials Oppose Mammoth Antennas at Beach

Cellular telephone companies have turned to district planning officials in Ashdod requesting to place 42 meter high antennas in the city’s beach area towards improved area reception.

Residents of a nearby building complained, citing health concerns, compelling the cellular provider companies to find a new venue to host the antennas since the building rooftop is no longer an option.

Environmentalists in Ashdod have already expressed opposition and concerns over the antennas, citing a regulation that prohibits placement of such antennas on any beach around the country.

On Sunday, Ashdod Mayor Yechiel Lasri sent a letter to the planning committee, in which he explains he has an alternate plan for the antennas, one that will also reduce emissions towards a better situation for all. The mayor expressed his opposition to the placement of the antennas along the coast, adding that an alternate venue that is less harmful must be found.
