Levaya for Eight Sifrei Torah Later in the Week

Zaka has completed its work, and the remains of the burned sifrei torah from the Eitz Chaim Shul in Kiryat Ono have been gathered for kvura later in the week. Six sifrei torah were destroyed along with 2 sifrei torah nevi’im. They were burned beyond any hope of repairing them.

HaRav HaGaon Ratzon Arusi, the chief rabbi of the city supervised the Zaka operation along with Zaka’s Rav Yaakov Rosa, working diligently to find pieces of the sifrei kodesh and placing them in pasul talleisim for kvura.

Rabbi Moshe Leon, the shul’s gabbai for the past decades, told HaMevaser “I don’t know what one can say other than what Dovid HaMelech says in tehillim (39:3) נֶאֱלַמְתִּי דוּמִיָּה הֶחֱשֵׁיתִי מִטּוֹב וּכְאֵבִי נֶעְכָּר. There are no words to describe the pain” he concluded.

Reb Leon added that the seforim were destroyed along with the entire beis knesses, explaining “This is a private aveilus for every one of the mispallalim and we will be sitting shiva”. He did not have exact details, but stated the levaya will most likely take place towards shabbos, beginning at the site of the fire, the former shul.

The seforim will be buried in the Yarkon beis hachaim and prominent rabbonim are expected to attend to address the tragedy that occurred davka on erev Shavuos.
