PHOTOS: 30 Hurt in Queens Yeshiva Bus Accident

Thirty people, including children, suffered minor injuries in a Queens school bus accident Tuesday morning, fire officials said.

The bus was driving the children to Yeahiva Central Queens (YCQ).

The FDNY said a call came in just after 7:45 a.m. reporting the accident at 174th Street and 76th Avenue.

Chopper 4 hovered over the scene, capturing video of a smashed SUV and minivan as well as the bus that had been driven onto the sidewalk.

Queens Hatzolah treated many of the children, and had numerous ambulances on the scene.

All victims were treated at the scene. It wasn’t immediately known how many of them were children.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.

  1. Please see email that was sent out by YCQ Principal, Rabbi Mark Landsman, and correct your misleading title, thank you:
    “Dear Parents,
As you may have heard, one of the YCQ busses was involved in a traffic accident this morning in Hillcrest. Everyone from YCQ is Baruch Hashem fine. One child was taken to the hospital for minor injuries where he remained for two hours before being released.
Currently, our Social Work Director, Mrs. Marcy Davidovics, is speaking to each student individually to make sure that they are feeling comfortable after going through a difficult experience.
Many thanks go to our wonderful “B” bus driver, Ms. Paulette Roc, who did an amazing job of protecting and caring for our children. We also wish to commend our own Rabbi Hamel and Rabbi Nat who first responded for Hatzalah as well as the Office of Pupil Transportation, the Atlantic Express Bus Company, other Hatzalah members, the NYC Police Department, NYC Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services.
We give thanks to Hashem that none of the YCQ students were seriously injured.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any question or concerns.
    Sincerely,
    Rabbi Mark Landsman
    Principal”

  2. Beautifully written letter informing parents about everything that they were worried and concerned about with hakaras hatov to all involved.

  3. Dear Editors/Moderators,

Please correct the headline to reflect the reality. Unfortunately, the media’s shock inducing headline was ioncorrect and caused many people to flood the Yeshiva’s phone lines in panic. There were 30 students on the bus. there were NOT 30 students, injured. One student had a minor cut AND THAT WAS IT! the rest of the students went back to school unharmed, Thank G-d. The bus was hit by ONE minivan, no other SUV was involved, the black SUV featured in the photos across the street from the bus was a HATZLAH RESPONDER! Perhaps, for the sake of integrity, it would behoove all journalists to verify their information before publishing their news articles. A simple call to the school could have clarified the information and prevented such a misleading article from being published. (Though to be fair, it was not YWN that fabricated the inforamtion, this smae incorrect article was published in various news sites. However, we would expect a frum site to be more careful.)
    Thank you very much.
Below is a press release from the school sent to carious sites to correct the misinformation:
