Community Service for Convicted Sikrik

The Jerusalem District Court on Monday, sentenced Yosef Meir Chazon to three months community service after accepting the plea bargain agreement presented by attorneys. The defendant is also compelled to pay a fine of 10,000 NIS and if he commits his crime again, will automatically serve a half year prison term. Chazon was charged with aggravated assault and rioting in connection to his Sikrik activities related to the ongoing dispute surrounding Batei Warsaw in Meah Shearim.

Defense attorneys Yehuda Fried and Tal Gabbai told Justice Eitan Kornhauser their client does not have a criminal record and is therefore entitled to leniency.

The prosecution on the other hand showed the defendant as he smashed windows and sprayed a substance into a home after breaking the windows. He also threw large stones and tried striking someone with a metal rod.

Despite the defendant’s sterling record, the court cited the worrisome nature of the violent acts and its concern, warning the defendant regarding an occurrence of such activity.

Fried added that despite his client’s clean record, he did already sit in jail for two weeks and under house arrest for five months.

  1. Perhaps if he has so much time on his hands, he should be drafted into the army. It’s not as if he’s spending his time learning.
