MK Elkin: No Forced Draft, No Harming Torah

MK (Likud) Ze’ev Elkin announced his party is working to reach a mutually agreeable solution to drafting chareidim explaining Likud does not support imposing ultimatums and the party will not support a plan that harms the torah community.

Meeting with chareidi representatives last week, Elkin explained that he will not permit anyone to harm the torah world. He acknowledged that his stance, along with the position of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu carries a political price, one they are willing to pay since they will not permit any harm to come to the torah community.

He stressed the need for agreement based on mutual understanding and not a plan that is compelled upon a tzibur. He told representatives that he describes himself as affiliated with the dati leumi community, but he is nevertheless opposed to any plan that harms those learning fulltime, explaining compromising the world of torah will be a בכייה לדורות.

He feels that the torah community in Eretz Yisrael is among the nation’s biggest accomplishments of the last decades and therefore, he cannot be part of any plan that seeks to destroy this accomplishment. He explained that as a result of his position, the same position held by the prime minister, they will pay a heavy price in the media and political arena but this is simply the way things will play out because they remained committed to not harming the torah community.

According to today’s political map, Kadima is expected to break from the coalition in the coming days.

  1. #1 Please let’s not be so naive. It’s called ‘Politics’. There is a serious concern that a sizable percentage of the ‘Chareidi’ tzibur will go back to the original position of Eida Chareidis, and disassociate itself entirely from the Zionist State. This would not be good for the Zionist Enterprize, because they would no longer be able to claim to represent the Jewish people.

Of course Netanyahu wants to have the Chareidi tzibbur assimilate into the Zionist melting pot! But he’s afraid it will not succeed unless he does it more gradually. Hence he gets Elkin to tell the Chareidim that Netanyahu is concerned about the Yeshiva’s learning.

So in the mean time there playing it again the old way (Likud were always the big experts in this) of the Zionist propaganda of them being the big supporters of Torah. And the Aguda will support their lies by continuing to take more of this very dirty money from the Zionist State…

  2. In the zehus of this decision, Eretz Yisrael will be protected from harm in the coming war. Guaranteed. Torah is what has protected it thus far.

chaim Yankel said it best! “This is called politics” and it is worse then what Plesner and Co. Were trying to do.

These snake tactics are more dangerous to us than the ones Kadima proposed. They realize being honest and open like Kadima would not work against a strong tzibur, so they will try Bilam Harosha tactic, befriend them and make them sin.

  4. Y2r, you are absolutely right. The Likud will disarm you and all of those who think like you. This is just the beginning. What will you say when the prime minister is the leader of Shas and the minister of defense is from agudas yisrael? Let’s do the arithmetic. For every secular child born 10 chareidim. Next generation that’s 50 to 1. See what I mean?
