After reports that Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was positioning fighter planes and tanks in the Sinai Peninsula there were reports in Israel that Jerusalem cited such a move was a violation of the 1979 peace treaty between the countries, which calls for a demilitarized Sinai as was the case during the administration of Hosni Mubarak.

Ynet reported on Tuesday afternoon 3 Elul 5772 that Israel filed a complaint against the treaty violation with Egypt via an American mediator. Later in the day Egyptian officials denied receiving any such complaint from Israel demanding Cairo demilitarizes Sinai again.

Yasser Ali, a spokesman for the Egyptian Presidential Residence told members of the press that the president’s office and the foreign ministry have not received any such request or demand from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. He added that media reports are not official and nothing more than media reports. He added that securing Sinai is one of the major Egyptian national security concerns.
