HaPeles Continues to Gain Momentum in Split with Degel

The Yerushalmi faction of Degel HaTorah is working tenaciously to get its Netzach Party up and running for the upcoming election. It is not all but certain that a split in Degel HaTorah is unavoidable as the faction continues building its list for the upcoming national election.

In yet another high-level meeting, names were discussed to represent the party to voters as Netzach prepares to launch its campaign. The names discussed include Menachem Carmel and Tzvika Herbst.

To the surprise of many, the top candidate to head the party is Rav Shai Gedasi, executive director of the Sephardi Marbitzei Torah organization and a major askan in Degel. While being Sephardi, he appears well respected in the Yerushalmi litvish camp and well known and admired by HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Auerbach as well as being very close to HaRav Yehuda Adas, Rosh Yeshivas Kol Yaakov and a member of the Degel Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael.

Kedasi owns a number of Jerusalem and Modi’in Illit talmidei torah and is well known and liked by a very large tzibur.

  1. “Building up their list”

At most they’ll get six seats, together. They do need a few extras if someone dies or quits. It isn’t much of a challenge for a mini-party to “build” a list. And since the are splitting, they probably only need one or two names, at most.

  2. Good choices for #1 of the list, he will appeal to the Sephardim who are Bnei Torah and reduce Shas by a seat or two.
NEVERTHELESS, the split will result in a smaller representation of Charedie MKs. A better strategy would be to remove Complacency from the Charedie Kehilla and get everyone out voting….
