PM Netanyahu Summoned Minister Elkin To Assist

It is another day in Knesset, Monday, 23 Kislev, and the chareidi parties continue efforts to achieve a required majority for their Shabbos Law. At present, Yisrael Beitenu has announced it will oppose the law, as will MKs Sharren Haskel and Yehuda Glick, leaving a one-vote majority for the bill to pass into law.

Seeking to calm the situation, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has enlisted the efforts of Minister Ze’ev Elkin, who will work to persuade others to support the bill.

It is possible, and even likely, that both Shas and Yahadut Hatorah will refrain from attending plenum sessions until the matter is attended too, leaving the coalition without a majority.

PM Netanyahu touched down in Ben-Gurion Airport on Monday afternoon, returning from official visits in Europe. He is working too towards enlisting additional support in the hope of averting a coalition crisis.

If he and Elkin fail, and the chareidi parties do not attend the plenum, then the coalition will have most likely reached its end and new early elections will become a reality.
