Israel: Some Election Trivia

The budget for the upcoming general elections for the 19th Knesset on 11 Shevat 5773 is 246,781,000 NIS.

There are 5,656,705 registered voters.

There will be 10,128 polling stations, including 1,549 for disabled voters, and 190 in hospitals. There will be 96 in diplomatic missions abroad and 57 in the nation’s prisons.

Each list of candidates that receives at least 2% of the legitimate votes participates in the distribution of mandates.

The total number of legitimate votes for all lists that participate in the distribution of mandates is divided by 120, and the resulting number is the “index.”

Each list of candidates receives Knesset seats according to the total number of votes received as divided by the “index.”

Following is a link (Hebrew) to the Central Election Committee listing of all the parties competing in the election and their voting letter.

  1. 190 in hospitals?

There are only ~20 hospitals in the entire country (way too few). That would mean 15+ polling stations in each hospital? Maybe it’s 19, not 190?
